Key Points

  • The crypto market is showing signs of recovery from the bear market.

  • Solana, Hyperliquid, and Zcash have each picked up a few new tailwinds recently.

  • It only makes sense to buy these coins if your portfolio already has Bitcoin and Ethereum.

The total crypto market cap reclaimed $3 trillion on Oct. 2, up 43% from $2.1 trillion at the end of June 2026, adding fuel to hopes that crypto might be about to go on a heater of a run. To prepare for that possibility, if you're a patient investor and already hold plenty of Bitcoin and some Ethereum, the three cryptocurrencies you should strongly consider buying for the next bull market are Solana (CRYPTO: SOL), Hyperliquid (CRYPTO: HYPE), and Zcash (CRYPTO: ZEC).

All three are likely to be leaders in any new or continued uptrend because they've been among the strongest performers since the bear market's bottom in late June. Of course, they all have compelling investment theses worth knowing before investing, so let's take a look at each.

Missed AI’s "Act 1"? Act 2 Could Be 15x Bigger. Most investors think they missed the AI boat because they didn't buy Nvidia in 2005. But according to our analysts, we’re only at the end of "Act 1"—the R&D phase. "Act 2" is the global rollout. Continue »

1. Solana is seeing its tokenization and launchpad ecosystems flourish

Solana's price is up by 50% over the last three months, a run that coincided with the Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) "innovation exemption," issued on Sept. 17, a five-year order that lets qualifying crypto venues trade tokenized stocks without registering as exchanges.

That had immediate implications for the chain's ecosystem of crypto launchpads and also its ecosystem for tokenized assets, both of which sprang into action to create new assets that have since powered fresh activity on the network. Pump.fun, Solana's largest platform for launching new meme tokens, launched an update in September that lets developers pair new tokens with a selection of 93 tokenized assets, including tokenized stocks. At the same time, other new launchpad projects emerged to offer a similar set of new features, capturing significant sums of new traffic along the way.

Solana's holders get a bit of upside exposure to the success of those launchpads without owning them, since all activity incurs transaction fees. A portion of those fees is then burned, removing some SOL from the supply, much like a (very small) stock buyback.

More generally, if a favorable regulatory change leading to a flurry of new activity by the chain's ecosystem participants, both new and old, doesn't sound bullish for the coin, not much else will.

2. Hyperliquid funded 58% of crypto's token buybacks through August

Hyperliquid is a blockchain specialized as a decentralized crypto exchange for derivatives such as perpetual futures.

Between 97% and 99% of its transaction fees are used to make open-market purchases of its token, HYPE. So by default, holders get a good deal when they buy this coin, provided that the exchange continues to attract activity.

And Hyperliquid has activity in spades. Impressively, of the $638 million that all crypto projects spent on token buybacks from January through August 2026, Hyperliquid was responsible for around $370 million, per research by CryptoSlate. Plus, on Sept. 25, the SEC said that buybacks of non-security tokens on working networks don't by themselves raise securities concerns.

But why is it reasonable to expect Hyperliquid to grow if there's a new bull market?

In short, it was growing strongly during the recent bear market, and so it has already left most of its decentralized competitors in the dust in terms of its available liquidity for trading and its overall level of exchange activity -- not to mention some of the centralized incumbent competitors too.

3. Zcash is emerging as a new store of value

Whereas payouts and buybacks might give investors a reason to hold tokens that continuously issue new supply, Zcash, a privacy-focused coin, takes a different approach.

Much like Bitcoin, it has a limit of 21 million ZEC that can ever exist, and its supply policies reward earlier buyers through issuance that shrinks at each halving. The next halving, estimated for Nov. 24, 2028, will slash the per-block mining reward from 1.56 ZEC to 0.78 ZEC.

If its privacy features are sufficient to sustain some level of demand, as they have been so far, each of its halvings will leave fewer newly produced coins for the market to compete over, which is what makes a scarce cryptocurrency valuable. In the long run, it might even siphon capital from Bitcoin, as some proponents have argued that Bitcoin can't truly function as digital cash because every transaction can be traced back to its owner's address.

For now, just recognize that Zcash's gain of 952% over the last 12 months is unlikely to be a blip, as few cryptocurrencies of its size offer the same combination of a tightly controlled supply and privacy.
