Funded backlog reached $5.3 billion following 12 consecutive quarters of order growth.
Full-year 2026 sales guidance increased to $6.625 billion.
Digital Imaging's third-quarter organic sales increased 14.3% year over year.
On its third quarter of 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 21, 2026, Teledyne (NYSE:TDY) raised its full-year 2026 sales guidance for the third consecutive quarter. Accumulated orders across defense and commercial sensor markets expanded the funded backlog (committed customer contracts backed by secured funding) to $5.3 billion. Three things management said stand out for long-term shareholders.
Orders surpassed sales for the 12th consecutive quarter, pushing funded backlog to $5.3 billion. That demand gives Teledyne multi-quarter visibility across its defense and commercial sensor markets.
As we mentioned, the backlog right now stands at $5.3 billion. Of that about 72% will be available for us to recognize as revenue in the next 12 months. To put that in perspective, that number is about half of the revenue that we enjoy for 2026.
-- Robert Mehrabian, Executive Chairman
Demand for infrared detectors (sensors that detect heat signatures) on space platforms and unmanned vehicles accelerated the segment's performance. High customer adoption of custom sensor subsystems expands Teledyne's presence across defense platforms.
Those grew very nicely. Primarily, due to space. As you know, we do a lot of work in space. With our infrared image sensors, and the whole missile warning and tracking system has been a really good domain for us.
-- Robert Mehrabian, Executive Chairman
Management relies on disciplined cost restructuring rather than sales expansion alone to create value from acquisitions. By applying operational efficiency tools, Teledyne expands margins and lowers effective valuation multiples relative to EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) following deal closures.
FLIR. We bought it at a multiple of 16.7x EBITDA. If you look at it today, in just 4 years, that is down to 13.7. And broadly, Teledyne has improved almost every acquisition that we have made and improved the margins
-- Robert Mehrabian, Executive Chairman
Broad-based momentum across commercial and defense end markets is accelerating financial performance, and management is not hiding its satisfaction.
To conclude, right now, virtually all of our businesses are moving in a positive direction simultaneously and our growth remains balanced.
-- Robert Mehrabian, Executive Chairman
Teledyne relies on integrated sensor technologies and long-term program wins to preserve pricing power. Leadership remains focused on supplier cost inflation and cross-segment sales integration. That discipline supports multiyear compounding as newly acquired capabilities mature.
Given our backlog, the pending acquisition of Varex, our strong balance sheet, and outstanding operating discipline, to 2027. I am already looking forward.
