Disney is kicking off fiscal 2027 this week, but quarterly results won't roll out until November.
Disney will stream details of its ninth cruise ship, Believe, next week.
Expectations aren't high for "Whalefall" when it hits theaters in two weeks, but Disney's always looking for whales.
I won't bury the lede. Walt Disney (NYSE: DIS) isn't likely to be making major financial announcements this month. There are no clear studio blockbusters hitting theaters in October, either. There aren't any major new rides or attractions debuting at a Disney theme park worldwide.
This doesn't mean that October isn't important. It's the start of fiscal 2027, a year with analysts targeting 5% in revenue growth on an 8% increase in earnings. Even Oct. 1 matters, as Thursday is the day Disney World's Magic Kingdom -- the Florida-based gated attraction that is currently the world's most visited theme park -- celebrates 55 years of operation.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
You will have to wait until November for Disney's fiscal fourth-quarter results. Larger theatrical releases will come later this year. For now, let's take a look at three days in October that Disney investors should be eyeing. With Disney stock falling nearly 10% in fiscal 2026, every little bit of potentially promising news can help.

Disney has been in the cruise ship business since 1998, but it has doubled its fleet -- and more than doubled its capacity -- in just the past five years. The ninth ship in its growing fleet won't have its maiden voyage until late 2027, but Disney will be making some big announcements about the upcoming ship next week.
Disney will reveal several distinctive features of the Disney Believe on Oct. 7. The event will take place aboard the Disney Wish, the fifth ship in its fleet. It will stream live across various Disney media outlets. With a growing fan base that has made cruising one of Disney's fastest-growing businesses, this segment is already making waves and moving the needle for the House of Mouse.
After a summer of highs and lows on the silver screen, Disney's ambitions are pared back heading into October. Don't call this a retreat. This is historically a sleepy time for the exhibitors, bridging the seasonally potent summer and holiday seasons.
Disney will have a couple of films hitting theaters this month, and expectations are low. Disney's October slate kicks off with an ESPN Films documentary next week. The film Portrait of an Artist: Stephen Curry covers arguably one of the best shooters in basketball on his run to a big milestone. The film was shot with IMAX (NYSE: IMAX) cameras, and will screen exclusively at IMAX theaters across the country starting next weekend.
We go back to the big screen a week later for a more traditional theatrical release. Whalefall -- based on the novel about a diver trapped inside a whale with just an hour of oxygen -- will come up for air in two weeks. Disney's 20th Century Studios will release the movie. It's an unusual premise, but unlike the Curry documentary, it won't be playing exclusively on IMAX screens.
With Hexed coming out next month as an original Disney animated film and Marvel's Avengers: Doomsday hitting your local multiplex in December, it should be a stronger quarter for Disney's films than the slow October start may suggest.
It's not just Disney. With media stocks in general lagging the market, a strong close to the 2026 calendar year could help turn sentiment around.
