One is a top AI developer, and the other is a retail and cloud computing powerhouse.
This strengthens the company's position as a go-to provider of AI design tools.
Synopsys (NASDAQ: SNPS), a company that offers electronic design automation (EDA) solutions used in the design and testing of semiconductors, had a fine Hump Day on the stock market. That's largely because it announced not one but two new cooperation agreements with powerful partners. Not surprisingly, its stock flew almost 5% higher that day.
One of the deals is with prominent artificial intelligence (AI) developer OpenAI, the company behind the enduringly popular ChatGPT model. Synopsys and OpenAI have formed a strategic partnership to develop a new model, sensibly titled GPT-Synopsys, that will use Synopsys' EDA tools to aid semiconductor design.
Missed AI’s "Act 1"? Act 2 Could Be 15x Bigger. Most investors think they missed the AI boat because they didn't buy Nvidia in 2005. But according to our analysts, we’re only at the end of "Act 1"—the R&D phase. "Act 2" is the global rollout. Continue »

As part of this pact, the two companies have agreed to a revenue-sharing arrangement, although details of this were not provided. Synopsys and OpenAI will also collaborate in the marketing of GPT-Synopsys.
The second contract is with retail and cloud computing giant Amazon. In Synopsys' words, the multi-year, $1 billion-plus arrangement aims to "accelerate Amazon's custom silicon innovation and advance the development of increasingly complex AI-powered products and cloud infrastructure."
Synopsys added that it is adopting Amazon's cloud storage services and the company's Bedrock AI development platform to support its efforts to further integrate AI into its solutions.
Synopsys' partnering with two very well-known names in important AI initiatives bolsters its position significantly. Although it's still fuzzy how the pair will affect its fundamentals, they ally the highly specialized tech company with businesses that can be powerful partners for quite some time (assuming these projects go relatively smoothly).
I think the investor bullishness in response to these news pieces was entirely justified, and Synopsys remains an exciting company to watch.
