OpenAI Seeks $30 Billion Funding After Delaying IPO, Valuation May Reach $1.4 Trillion

Source Tradingkey

TradingKey - According to people familiar with the matter, OpenAI aims to raise at least $30 billion in a new funding round after delaying its initial public offering (IPO) plans, targeting a valuation of about $1.4 trillion (excluding funds raised in this round).

If finalized, OpenAI could once again surpass the recent private market valuation of its rival Anthropic, the people said. Bloomberg News previously reported that OpenAI had considered raising a new round at a $1.2 trillion valuation, with the latest target revised upward.

The people said the financing discussions are still in early stages and final terms could still change, adding that demand for this round is driven by investors. The people asked not to be identified because the information is private. OpenAI declined to comment.

OpenAI Chief Executive Sam Altman previously stated that the company will not go public this year, choosing instead to focus on addressing artificial intelligence safety issues and calling an IPO at this time "unwise." This funding is seen as a bridge round replacing an IPO, providing OpenAI with additional capital. OpenAI's most recent funding round occurred in March this year, when the company raised $122 billion at a post-money valuation of $852 billion.
