Source The Motley Fool

Key Points

  • Beacon Financial reduced its commercial real estate concentration ratio to 295%.

On its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 22, 2026, Beacon Financial (NYSE:BBT) announced net income of $61.2 million during a leadership transition to Chief Executive Officer Sean A. Gray.

Three things management said stand out.

1. Rebalancing the Portfolio Toward Commercial Lending

Management lowered its investor commercial real estate concentration below its 300% internal target ratio. That move opens capacity for new commercial and industrial (C&I) loans to improve risk-adjusted yields.

Our first priority is to improve the composition and profitability of our balance sheet. On the asset side, we will accelerate quality, relationship led loan growth and improve the composition of our loan portfolio.
-- Sean A. Gray, Chief Executive Officer

2. Diversifying Revenue Streams Through Fee Income

Noninterest fee revenue makes up roughly 11% of total revenue. That reliance leaves earnings exposed to net interest margin fluctuations. Management plans to increase fee contribution to the mid-teens through 44 Business Capital, its Small Business Administration (SBA) loan sales platform, and wealth management services.

Our primary opportunities include cash management, wealth management, including Clarendon Private, payments, and SBA loan sales through 44 Business Capital. 44 Business Capital demonstrates our ability to identify specialized fee income opportunities and build the platform and scale it.
-- Sean A. Gray, Chief Executive Officer

3. Deploying Capital to Buy Back Undervalued Shares

Regulatory capital levels remain well above required minimums. That surplus gives the bank room to return capital to investors through share repurchases and dividends.

The Board also approved a quarterly dividend of $0.3225 per share reflecting a 4.7% dividend yield. Over time, our goal is to reduce our share count as part of a more structured approach that supports organic growth, balance sheet strength, and shareholder returns.
-- Sean A. Gray, Chief Executive Officer

Looking Ahead

Net interest margin, or the difference between interest earned on assets and paid on deposits, reached 3.85%. Management expects yields to benefit from asset sensitivity if interest rates rise.

Looking ahead, we expect net interest margin to be in the range of 3.85% to 3.9%. Purchase accounting accretion contributes approximately $12 million per quarter, based on contractual cash flows, and will fluctuate based on prepayment activity.
-- Carl Carlson, Chief Financial Strategy Officer

Purchase accounting accretion, which represents accounting adjustments to acquired loan values, adds income each quarter. Operational efficiency improvements and disciplined balance sheet execution drive the bank's long-term return targets.

Taken together, these priorities supported by the scale of our combined franchise and management controllable levers provide a path to stronger returns.
-- Sean A. Gray, Chief Executive Officer
