Marvell CEO Matt Murphy said last month that his company is the "Switzerland" of the semiconductor industry because it works with everybody.
Investors were optimistic about new technology the company announced, and shares continued to march higher recently on management's updated guidance.
Shares of the semiconductor company Marvell Technology (NASDAQ:MRVL) jumped 24.8% in September, according to data provided by S&P Global Market Intelligence, as investors grew optimistic about the broader AI infrastructure industry.
Marvell stock has made huge strides over the past year, and comments made by CEO Matt Murphy during the month convinced investors that the good times aren't anywhere near over.
Missed AI’s "Act 1"? Act 2 Could Be 15x Bigger. Most investors think they missed the AI boat because they didn't buy Nvidia in 2005. But according to our analysts, we’re only at the end of "Act 1"—the R&D phase. "Act 2" is the global rollout. Continue »

Marvell stock jumped early in September on news that Nvidia was purchasing the open-source AI model development platform Hugging Face. Marvell didn't have anything to do with the deal specifically, but it is a partner with Nvidia, which took a $2 billion stake in Marvell back in March.
The semiconductor industry is highly intertwined, so major announcements about new deals, partnerships, or acquisitions can easily move other companies' share prices.
Marvell's shares continued their upward trajectory just a few days later after that announcement, when CEO Matt Murphy appeared on CNBC's Mad Money and said his company has earned a lot of trust from its customers.
Murphy said competition in the semiconductor industry was rising, but added that Marvell is the "Switzerland" of the semiconductor industry because it works with everybody.
And Marvell's stock got yet another boost toward the end of the month when the company said in a press release that it would demo an "industry-first 2mn" optical technology for AI data centers.
Management said in a statement that the new tech would "highlight how Marvell continually pushes the envelope of what is possible in optical technology" and achieve new levels of performance and efficiency. Investors latched onto that news and pushed the semiconductor stock higher.
Marvell stock is up about 4.5% in the first week of October, continuing its upward trajectory that has led to a 218% rise over the past 12 months.
Marvell continues to benefit from the rapid acceleration of AI infrastructure spending, which is estimated to exceed $1.3 trillion next year -- up from about $750 billion this year.
The boooming AI infrastructure market prompted the company's management to recently raise its fiscal 2031 revenue estimates to $80 billion and its non-GAAP earnings per share estimate to $30, both at the midpoint of guidance. That was especially notable because both estimates are about 50% higher than Wall Street's consensus estimates.
If the company continues on its current path, Marvell shareholders appear to have much more to look forward to.
