Vicor Surges Over 10% Pre-Market as VPD Licensing Drives Revenue Outlook Upgrade

Source Tradingkey

TradingKey - In U.S. pre-market trading on September 22, power technology company Vicor (VICR) rose over 10% at one point. As of press time, VICR was up 9.42%. The company expects revenue for the third quarter of 2026 to grow by more than 20% quarter-over-quarter, compared to its previous expectation of close to 10%.

Vicor attributed the raised guidance to a recently announced non-exclusive Vertical Power Delivery (VPD) license. The company expects the agreement to contribute royalty revenue in the third quarter, though it did not disclose the licensee or the specific amount.

On September 17, Vicor announced that it granted a VPD license to a leading AI equipment manufacturer. Under the agreement, the customer can procure VPD modules covered by Vicor patents from multiple suppliers.

Patrizio Vinciarelli, CEO of Vicor, stated that four leading equipment manufacturers or hyperscalers have now licensed the company's power system technology. The additional royalty revenue is the primary factor behind Vicor raising its third-quarter revenue forecast.

VPD places current multipliers beneath the processor, shortening high-current transmission paths. Vicor stated that this technology can reduce power distribution network impedance and power loss while increasing power density, primarily for AI accelerators and high-performance network processors.

As its licensing business expands, Vicor is also increasing its own power module manufacturing capacity. The company is acquiring facilities and land in Merrimack and Hooksett, New Hampshire, to construct ChiP Fab-2 and Fab-3, with a combined planned floor area of nearly 1 million square feet across the two facilities.

Vicor stated that capacity utilization at its existing ChiP Fab-1 is approaching full capacity, and the first phase of capacity deployment at Fab-2 is expected to take about one year. The company has not yet disclosed the investment scale or specific timeline for bringing the new facilities online.
