Micron Technology Q3 FY2026: Revenue Explodes to $41.46B, HBM4 Ramps, $10B Boise Lab Signals Long-Term Memory Strategy

Source Tradingkey

TradingKey - Micron Technology (MU) announced fiscal Q3 2026 revenue to be $41.46 billion on June 24, up 346% from the prior fiscal year and 74% from the previous fiscal quarter. This is an all-time record of Micron Technology and strengthens the company's five straight all-time records of revenue. Non-GAAP EPS came in at $25.11, beating the analyst consensus of approximately 20.49–20.71 by 21–23%. The company also reported an all-time record of 84.6% gross margin for the fiscal quarter. They also achieved an all-time high of $25.39 billion for operating cash flow, a new all time high for the company.

Looking forward Micron Technology forecasts Q4 fiscal 2026 revenue in the range of $50 billion (+/- $1 billion), implying ~21% sequential growth, with 86% gross margin and $31 non-GAAP EPS (± $1). After the other earnings reports posted by the major participants in the AI infrastructure build-out, Micron took the strongest position. On August 20, Micron Technology dedicated $10 billion to build a research facility in Boise, Idaho to be called Micron Research Labs.

The facility will have a special focus on AI and will be built in multiple phases starting in 2027. The facility reflects Micron's belief that there will be a large, sustained market for AI memory. In addition, on August 13 Micron Technology established the $250 million Micron Ventures Paradigm Fund to help finance next generation computing and further secure its position.

Q3 FY2026: Record Revenue $41.46B, Exceptional Margins, Cash Flow

Total revenues for Q3 reached $41.46 billion, a 346% increase from the $9.30 billion recognized in the prior year and a 74% increase on the previous quarter’s $23.86 billion revenues, outstripping the market’s $35.69 billion estimate by 17% in the process. Non-GAAP earnings per share (EPS) came in at $25.11, outdoing the market expectations of $20.49-$20.71 by 21-23%. GAAP net income amounted to $28.24 billion, equating to $24.67 per share. The company’s operating cash flow amounted to $25.39 billion, representing a 5.5x increase on a year-over-year (YoY) basis, with adjusted free cash flow coming in at $18.3 billion.

Strengthening margins were evident on a GAAP basis as gross margin increased to 84.6% from 37.7% in the prior year, and stood at 84.9% on a non-GAAP basis. The company’s main product segments drove impressive year-on-year (YoY) growth, particularly DRAM and NAND revenues, which stood at $31.3 billion (+343%) and $9.9 billion (+361%) respectively.

Highlights of end markets included over 7x growth in data center revenues to over $11.5 billion, cloud memory revenues which grew 300% to $13.77 billion, and mobile and client revenues, which grew over 250% to $11.52 billion. Revenues from the automotive and embedded markets more than 400% to $4.63 billion.

Q4 Guidance: $50B Revenue, 86% Margins, $31 EPS — Accelerating Growth Trajectory

Management expects Q4 revenue in the range of $50.0B ( plus or minus $1B), indicating a 21% growth sequentially from Q3. The expected gross margin is about 86%. Non-GAAP EPS is expected to be $31.00 (plus or minus $1.00). The sequential dollar growth ($8.5B) at the midpoint, in absolute terms, is larger than what most of the semi-conductor companies generate in a single quarter. The 86% gross margin is also noteworthy. It suggests that the supply conditions and the pricing will remain beneficial despite the record profits expectations in Q3.

HBM4 High-Volume Production, HBM4E Development on Track for 2027

HBM4 is in high-volume production for NVIDIA's Vera Rubin platform. Compared to HBM3E, with comparable form factors, HBM4 offers improved bandwidth per stack (2.8 TB/s compared to 1.4 TB/s) and power efficiency (20% improvement). Micron has also sampled qualification of 48GB 16-high HBM4, which further improves capacity per stack by 33% over HBM4. Development of HBM4E, with 1-gamma DRAM, is underway with production scheduled for calendar 2027. Both HBM3E and HBM4 are booked for calendar 2027 with demand expected to extend beyond that into 2028. The Pricing power continues to be extremely high. Price increases in the DRAM ASPs (double digit percent range) and NAND ASPs (80% range) have been observed this year, despite the moderate single digit percentage increase in bit shipments.

$10 Billion Micron Research Labs (August 20) Plus $250M Paradigm Fund (August 13)

Micron announced Micron Research Labs on 20 August, a $10 billion R&D lab to be built over the next decade in Boise, Idaho. The Micron Research Labs will pursue next generation memories and compute technologies while addressing challenges in manufacturing technologies. Micron expects to break ground in 2027.

On 13 August, Micron announced the launch of Micron Ventures Paradigm Fund, a $250 million fund dedicated to backing AI based startups in models, compute and enterprise applications and robotics. This brings Micron Ventures’ total commitment to their areas of interested to ~$550 million. Instead of simply looking for an ROI, Micron is hoping to learn how the design of AI systems will impact the design of storage and memory systems.

Structural Shift: Strategic Customer Agreements Replace Cyclical Dynamics

Micron started off Q3 with 16 new Strategic Customer Agreements (SCAs) bringing in a minimum of $100 billion in contracted sales over the next decade. Customer deposits and prepayments totaled $22 billion. Micron has disrupted the memory business by contracting with hyperscale customers at a level and with terms that no memory company has done before. The company said SCAs “will significantly enhance durability and predictability” of financial performance and mitigating the effects of cyclicality.

Technical: Support $946.49, Resistance $1,030.76, Stock at $974.25

According to technical analysis, Micron (MU) is trading at $974.25. The equity is currently in a bullish trend within an ascending channel with an intact rising trendline and strong support from its moving averages at $932.70 and $925.42. From a momentum perspective, there was ample buying demand, as evidenced by a rise in price and the RSI at 59 (signal line at 53).

Bottom Line: Structural AI Cycle, Supply Constraints Into 2028, Record Profitability

MU Q3: Revenue $41.46B (+346% YoY, +74% seq, beat), EPS $25.11 (beat), Q4 guidance $50B (21% seq growth, 86% margin). HBM4 high-volume production tracking 2x HBM3E ramp. HBM4E dev 2027. $10B Micron Research Labs (Aug 20), $250M Paradigm Fund (Aug 13). Operating cash $25.39B (+450% YoY). $22B customer deposits. SCAs lock $100B revenue through 2030.

For investors: Micron's earnings are in a brand new world. The SCA structure, $22B in customer deposits, and visibility into pricing for multiple years will change the nature of the cyclical nature of the business. There are still risks. Margin could normalize after 2027 if supply catches up to demand. There is also competitive pressure from Chinese DRAM in the mainstream segment and overall financing for the broader AI infrastructure.

The 86% margins with $50B in expected revenue for the fourth quarter illustrates that the structural AI cycle is still intact. Jackson Hole Fed (Aug 27-29) will illustrate some key opening sentiments. This is my analysis, not investment advice.
