Iran strongly condemned the latest economic measures imposed by the United States (US) on Friday, describing Washington's sanctions policy as “state terrorism”, according to a statement from the Iranian Foreign Ministry cited by Reuters.

Tehran said the US economic campaign constitutes a “ruthless tool” designed to inflict pain and suffering on the Iranian population, arguing that the sanctions put the health and livelihoods of millions of civilians at serious risk.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry went further by describing the US economic measures as an international crime and a crime against humanity. It called on the international community, including United Nations (UN) bodies, to act to uphold international law.

Iran also urged countries to refrain from implementing the US sanctions, arguing that participation in the measures would amount to complicity in imposing one state's “unlawful will” on others.

Tehran added that it remains determined to use all its capabilities to defend the country against what it described as a combined US-Israeli military and economic assault.
