Bank of Marin originated $102 million in new loan commitments.
Noninterest-bearing balances represented 37.8% of total deposits at quarter end.
Sequential earnings per share grew 7% in the third quarter.
On its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 26, 2026, Bank of Marin (NASDAQ:BMRC) reported that sequential quarter earnings per share, the profit allocated to each share of common stock, grew 7%. Expanding net interest margin, the gap between interest earned on assets and interest paid on deposits, shows that rising asset yields are outpacing funding costs. That shift boosts core profitability so Bank of Marin doesn't need to stretch for risky assets.
Three key takeaways from management stand out for long-term investors.
Bank of Marin is writing new loans at rates well above the average yield of its existing portfolio, driving expanding margins as older debt matures and reprices higher. The bank holds a 63% loan-to-deposit ratio, the percentage of deposits lent out to borrowers, giving it substantial room to fund profitable new originations using existing cash.
The 142-basis-point spread between the yield on new loan and the yield on the entire loan portfolio is evidence of the opportunity we have to improve net interest margin through loan remixing and repricing over the coming quarters.
-- David Bonaccorso, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Noninterest-bearing deposits, checking accounts that pay zero interest to depositors, account for nearly 38% of total customer funding at Bank of Marin. This large pool of free funding insulates the institution from rising market interest rates because it doesn't have to compete for expensive wholesale funding, loans borrowed from other financial firms.
Noninterest bearing deposits represented 37.8% of total deposits at quarter end. Continuing to differentiate our franchise and provide a meaningful funding in a very competitive market.
-- Timothy D. Myers, President and Chief Executive Officer
Management overhauled service charge structures for business deposit accounts in July 2026 to capture fair compensation for commercial treasury services. This strategic adjustment builds a durable stream of noninterest income, fees earned from services rather than loans, reducing overall revenue volatility.
Importantly, the increase in service charges reflects initiatives we implemented earlier this year which are helping diversify our revenue streams and build a more durable source of recurring fee income.
-- David Bonaccorso, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Core earnings power is expanding across the footprint, driven by low deposit costs, strong client relationships, and strict pricing discipline.
Overall, the third quarter reflected continued progress across the franchise. Including higher earnings, continued margin expansion and loan growth.
-- Timothy D. Myers, President and Chief Executive Officer
Disciplined expense control and active balance-sheet management position Bank of Marin to compound value through changing economic environments.
Together with our ongoing focus on balance sheet management and expense control, we believe these efforts position us well to continue building long term shareholder value.
