Japan, South Korea Stocks Rebound as Kospi Surges Over 4%, SK Hynix and SoftBank Soar 6%, Kioxia Jumps Nearly 8%

TradingKey - Japanese and South Korean chip stocks stage a major recovery, with KOSPI and Samsung Electronics surging over 4%, SK Hynix and SoftBank jumping over 6%, and Kioxia skyrocketing nearly 8%.

On October 27 Asia time, after several consecutive days of deleveraging and market consolidation, stock markets in Japan and South Korea welcomed a strong oversold rebound. Semiconductor giants SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics led the rally, driving South Korea's KOSPI index to stage a powerful surge at the open, while the Nikkei 225 index also opened higher with heavy volume to mount a comeback.

The KOSPI opened significantly higher and continued to climb, surging 4.23% to temporarily stand at 5,701.01 points; Samsung Electronics opened sharply lower before jumping 4.93%, strongly breaching the 220,000 mark to stand at 223,500 KRW; SK Hynix rose 6.35% to stand at 1,356,000 KRW.

The Nikkei 225 index also opened higher and moved higher, rising 1.9% to stand at 63,373.34 points; Kioxia surged 7.85% to stand at 13,535 JPY; SoftBank rose 5.98% to stand at 4,518 JPY.

Despite US Treasury yields remaining at high levels, Anthropic's public IPO filing and disclosure of first-half revenue boosted US stocks, with the Nasdaq rising 0.82% and the Philly Semiconductor Index jumping nearly 3%, driving strong demand for a valuation recovery in the Asian semiconductor sector (especially Samsung and Hynix).

In addition, SK Hynix will officially announce its Q3 2026 financial results tomorrow (October 28). The market has high expectations for its guidance regarding a 16 trillion KRW (approximately $12 billion) special dividend payout from the proceeds of selling Kioxia, coupled with explosive profit growth driven by HBM3e / HBM4 orders booked through 2027, attracting a large number of institutional and foreign investors to position themselves ahead of the earnings release.

Gold breaks $4,000 as oil becomes the inflation problem — $3,943 is the line that mattersSpot gold closed at $3,995.6 on October 23, down about 4.1% for the week and at its lowest since mid-July, and traded near $3,988 on October 26 even as Brent crude settled at $116.72 and Middle East supply risk stayed elevated. The war premium stopped working because oil is now the inflation trade: December Fed hike odds are 68.9% and the 10-year yield is 4.988%. Here are the three numbers, the transmission chain, and the July low at $3,943 that decides whether this is a bottom or a bigger correction.
