On its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 19, 2026, Fifth Third Bancorp (NYSE:FITB) reported an 8% sequential increase in adjusted pre-provision net revenue, which measures profit before taxes and credit loss provisions. The completion of the Comerica Incorporated systems integration positions the lender to capture cost savings and expand retail deposit share across southern markets. Three takeaways from the call highlight the bank's operational momentum.

1. Integration Milestones Exceed Profitability Targets Ahead of Schedule

Completing the technical integration of Comerica Incorporated unlocked operating efficiency faster than projected. Adjusted return on tangible common equity, a key measure of profitability, reached 20.6%, clearing multiyear merger targets.

Despite the conversion occurring a full 10 weeks into the quarter, we have already exceeded two of the three 2027 profitability targets spelled out in our deal announcement.
-- Timothy N. Spence, Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President

2. Market Share Expansion Drives Rapid Deposit Growth in Texas

Expanding into high-growth metropolitan areas gives the bank reliable funding. Marketing campaigns in Dallas and Houston pulled in new consumer accounts, helping fund commercial lending across new markets.

Retail deposits in Dallas and Houston grew more than 20% over the prior year, and we gained more than 40 basis points of market share.
-- Timothy N. Spence, Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President

3. Asset Sensitivity and Rate Hikes Support Net Interest Income

Higher interest rates increased yields on floating-rate loans. Management reinvested capital into securities to lock in yields and manage asset sensitivity, which measures how profit moves with interest rates.

The higher market rates during the quarter provided attractive entry points to begin reducing our asset sensitivity.
-- Bryan D. Preston, Chief Financial Officer

Looking Ahead

Organic loan growth and branch density in high-growth southern markets give the lender structural funding advantages as interest rates fluctuate.

Total commercial loan production in the third quarter was double the production generated in the year ago quarter.
-- Bryan D. Preston, Chief Financial Officer

Capital allocation prioritizes organic balance sheet expansion and steady dividend payments while management monitors deposit pricing discipline.

While we will always have opportunities to get 1% better, I feel great about how Fifth Third is positioned and in our ability to deliver an even better 2027.
-- Timothy N. Spence, Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President

Bitcoin's double top at $88,000: why $78,000 is the line that decides the next moveBitcoin trades near $82,500 (+0.47%) after twice failing at the $88,000 area, forming a potential double top with a neckline at $78,000. A break below the neckline would project a measured target near $68,200; a close back above $88,000 would invalidate the pattern. Here are the structure, the levels and what would confirm either side.
