Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) is no stranger to making bold calls, and its visionary CEO Jensen Huang has made many of them in his time. However, this may be the boldest one yet. Over the past year, he has repeatedly told investors that the company expects up to $4 trillion in data center capital expenditures annually by 2030. The low end of that range is $3 trillion, so there is still a ton of growth ahead in this industry.

While that may seem like a wild and far-off projection, it's likely not. Nvidia has more information about the trends of the artificial intelligence (AI) computing market than most investors, and sometimes it's better to let the experts do the talking for you and then invest based on what they say.

Missed AI’s "Act 1"? Act 2 Could Be 15x Bigger. Most investors think they missed the AI boat because they didn't buy Nvidia in 2005. But according to our analysts, we’re only at the end of "Act 1"—the R&D phase. "Act 2" is the global rollout. Continue »

Nvidia is in a great position to know what's going on

Nvidia is the primary AI computing unit supplier to customers of all shapes and sizes. Its graphics processing units (GPUs) and the various products that support them are synonymous with AI computing, and every new AI computing device that launches is immediately compared to Nvidia's products. That's a great spot to be in, and Nvidia just raised the bar once again with its new Vera Rubin chip architecture. This will keep Nvidia in the driver's seat and allow it to issue bold calls like the $3 trillion to $4 trillion call it issued.

None of the AI hyperscalers are getting as much computing power as they want, and many are seriously compute-constrained right now. Several of the cloud computing giants have a backlog totaling $500 billion or more, and they desperately need more computing power. These firms have ambitious growth plans, and if they stand up a new data center and have no chips to put in it, it's a waste of time.

So, these companies are likely sharing their five-year plans and growth trajectories with Nvidia so that it can properly size its supply chain to provide them computing units when they need them. This gives Nvidia visibility into multiple years of growth and gives Huang the confidence he needs to issue a bold proclamation like that.

We're already seeing evidence of Nvidia's comfort in forecasting revenue well ino the future, as the company issued guidance for 70% revenue growth for fiscal year (FY) 2028 (ending January 2028, encompassing most of 2027). That guidance was given because Nvidia knows it's likely maximizing its production rates next year, and it won't be able to deliver much better growth than that.

While demand beyond FY 2028 isn't as clear, it's still visible enough for Nvidia to issue its full projection. But what does that mean for the stock?

None of this growth is priced in

The reality is that none of this monster growth to reach $3 trillion to $4 trillion in global data center capital expenditures annually is priced into Nvidia's stock. Nvidia trades for just 29 times trailing earnings right now -- a pretty cheap price tag considering its impressive growth. None of 2027's projected 70% growth is priced into the stock, let alone whatever it will see in 2028 and beyond.

This could be a major advantage for long-term investors, and buying shares now could result in very strong returns. The reality is that Nvidia will be one of the best stocks to own over the next few years as AI build-outs ramp up, and that will result in many satisfied investors who buy the stock now. Nvidia tops the short list of best stocks to buy now, and I think investors will be highly rewarded by taking a position in the stock while it's still cheap.
