Bitcoin Price Prediction for October 2026: One $4.35 Billion Risk Stands in Uptober's Way

Bitcoin price enters October about 9% above its close on the day of the Fed rate hike, after a September that history said should be red.

Is Bitcoin Following History?

Not this year. August’s median return since 2011 is −7.15%, and Bitcoin (BTC) gained 25%. September’s median is −2.34%, and it is up almost 6%.

October is friendlier per history. It rose in 10 of the past 15 years, with a median gain of 11.2%, according to CryptoRank monthly data. What’s important is that after a green September, it rose four times out of six.

Why Are the Funds Slowing Down?

Spot Bitcoin ETFs have bought for seven straight sessions since September 17, taking in $2.98 billion. The $134.47 million on September 25 was just 13% of the $998.95 million peak on September 21, per SoSoValue flow data.

The August streak ran nine sessions and $3.04 billion, and never dropped below 38% of its peak day. When it broke on August 28, Bitcoin slid 5.8% by September 15. Despite that risk, some buyers are still in play.

Who Is Buying Now?

Long-term holders are. Hodler Net Position Change tracks whether coins held for months are being added to or sold. It stayed red from August 2 to August 30, as holders sold. This metric has been green since August 31.

It dipped to 16,415 BTC on September 25, then climbed to 23,172 BTC on September 27. Holders are buying the pause that funds are sitting out. But there is one big risk building as well!

Where Could a Long Flush Come From?

A liquidation map shows where leveraged bets get forced shut. On Binance, positions from the past seven days lean short, with $1.96 billion above the price against $1.03 billion of longs below. A small push higher could squeeze them.

However, the 30-day map brings the risk. Longs total $4.35 billion down to about $74,170, against $1.65 billion of shorts. October has a memory here. More than $19 billion of leveraged bets were wiped out on October 10, 2025.

Bitcoin Price Prediction: The Levels for October

On the two-day chart, Bitcoin has traded inside a falling channel since January 13. Buying volume has faded since February 6, and the late-September push failed at $87,360, near the channel’s upper line.

The 50-period exponential moving average (EMA), an average that weights recent prices more, sits at $74,117. It is close to crossing above the 100-period EMA at $74,312, a bullish signal. Selling volume has also eased since September 22, which gives the cross room to complete.

Reclaiming $84,433 comes first. Above $87,360, the next hurdles are $90,288, $99,764 and $115,094. Below $80,811, weak ETF flows could drag price to $74,957, near the EMAs and the long pile.

Analyst’s View: History and holders favor a green October. Fading ETF flows and the 30-day long pile do not. A two-day close above $87,360 with ETF buying back would favor the bulls, and losing $80,811 would put that $74,000 zone in play.
