On its third quarter of 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 15, 2026, Home Bancshares (NYSE:HOMB) announced record net income of $129.1 million. The bank demonstrated how disciplined balance sheet positioning protects profitability during changing interest rate cycles. Its focus on capital returns and underwriting discipline continues to generate high returns for shareholders. Three takeaways from the call stand out for long-term investors.

1. Balance Sheet Discipline Protects Profitability As Rates Rise

Management avoided buying long-term securities when interest rates were low, preventing the balance sheet losses that hit peer banks. That strategy expanded the net interest margin (the difference between interest earned on assets and interest paid on deposits) to 4.53% for the third quarter.

Home avoided taking excessive duration risk, maintained balance sheet flexibility and protected shareholder capital. Our disciplined decision not to build a large, long-duration securities portfolio has proven to be the right one.
-- John Allison, Chairman

2. Shareholder Capital Returns Remain a Core Management Priority

The company raised its quarterly dividend 9.5% to $0.23 per share and repurchased 3.3 million shares for $94.4 million through the first three quarters of 2026. Management plans to continue share buybacks to return excess capital to owners.

It is our goal to return as much capital to our shareholders as prudent to do so. I understand the importance of shareholders because they are the ones we work for.
-- John Allison, Chairman

3. Underwriting Discipline Takes Priority Over Unprofitable Growth

Management prioritizes asset quality over expanding loan volume, refusing to lower credit standards or offer irrational pricing. This disciplined strategy keeps nonperforming loans low while protecting core profitability.

We remain focused on asset quality, profitability and growth in that order. One thing I can confidently tell you for my 65 quarters leading the lending function of this company is that this is the only formula for long-term success in this industry.
-- Kevin Hester, President and Chief Lending Officer

Looking Ahead

Loan opportunities are increasing across the bank's footprint, and management isn't hiding its enthusiasm for upcoming origination activity. The bank maintains strong capital reserves and a low efficiency ratio (a measure of operating expenses as a percentage of revenue where lower numbers signal better efficiency) of 40.84%, while keeping pricing discipline front and center.

We will grow when opportunities meet our standards for credit quality, pricing and shareholder returns. We will stay the course and you can bank on that.
-- John Allison, Chairman

Management plans to complete back-office integration for its Mountain Commerce acquisition in the fourth quarter of 2026, creating additional cost savings. The bank continues to position its balance sheet for sustained performance and ongoing capital distribution.

We remain focused on finishing the year out strong and delivering long-term value for our shareholders.
-- John Allison, Chairman
