Boeing Stock Forecast: Awarded Up to $131.2 Billion US Government F-15 Contract, Can Defense Orders Boost BA Stock Rebound?

Source Tradingkey

TradingKey - Boeing (BA) has secured another mega defense contract. The U.S. Department of Defense awarded Boeing an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract valued at up to $131.23 billion on August 24 local time to support the F-15 "Eagle Crest" program, covering aircraft production, system integration, modernization upgrades, modifications, and follow-on maintenance support. Contract work will be conducted in St. Louis, Missouri, with an ordering period through August 2031 and options to extend to 2036, with all work expected to be completed by 2037.

This F-15 contract has a broad scope, covering not only the U.S. Air Force and Air National Guard, but also supporting Foreign Military Sales to countries such as Japan, Israel, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, and Poland. As the U.S. and its allies continue to advance defense modernization, the upgrade and long-term support for the F-15 fleet will continue to generate steady demand.

This order further demonstrates the strategic value of Boeing's defense business. In recent years, market attention on Boeing has mostly focused on 737 MAX production and delivery pace, as well as supply chain and labor issues, but its Defense, Space & Security segment remains an important revenue source for the company. As the U.S. and its allies increase defense spending, programs such as fighter jets, bombers, and military helicopters are expected to provide Boeing with longer-term order support.

In addition to the F-15 program, Boeing has also recently secured orders related to the modernization of B-52 bombers.

The U.S. Air Force announced on Tuesday that Boeing was awarded an approximately $163 million contract for the production, kitting, and delivery of bomb rack modernization system kits for the B-52 Radar Modernization Program. Work is expected to be completed by December 2028, and the program is managed by the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center.

How Is Boeing Stock Performing?

Boeing's stock price has recently undergone a noticeable correction. On August 25, BA closed at $211.08, up 0.29% for the day, but it has pulled back significantly from its high in early August. Between August 17 and August 21, weighed down by labor negotiations as well as concerns over production and deliveries, Boeing's shares weakened for consecutive sessions.

By contrast, the $131.2 billion F-15 contract has provided a new positive catalyst for the market. Although actual revenue from the contract will depend on future orders being fulfilled over time, the massive order ceiling and multi-year execution period will help enhance order visibility for Boeing's defense business, while potentially bolstering investor confidence in the company's future cash flow improvement.

Wall Street currently maintains a relatively positive long-term outlook on Boeing. According to TipRanks data, out of 18 analysts covering Boeing over the past 12 months, 17 rate it a Buy, with an average 12-month price target of approximately $274.68 and a high target reaching $305.

Wells Fargo analyst David E. Strauss maintained a price target of $250, while Bernstein analyst Douglas Harned kept a price target of $298. In early August, BNP Paribas upgraded Boeing directly from "Underperform" to "Outperform" and raised its price target to $300.

Boeing Stock Technical Analysis: Is There Hope for BA to Rebound?

From a technical perspective, Boeing's stock price remains in a clear weak consolidation phase. The stock has fallen below its 60-day moving average of $220.67 and 20-day moving average of $225.49, indicating that short-term bears hold the upper hand. Although the 20-day moving average temporarily remains above the 60-day moving average, it has already curved downward. If a death cross forms subsequently, it could further reinforce the downtrend.

RSI currently stands at around 37.93, below both the 50 midline and its smoothed signal line of 50.19, indicating that market momentum remains weak. However, RSI has not yet dropped into the oversold territory below 30, so the stock price may still continue to test support below.

Key support below lies near $203.72, a level that has repeatedly capped losses over the past year. If large defense orders improve market sentiment and push the stock price to stabilize above $203.72, BA could see a technical rebound.

To the upside, attention should first be paid to the moving average resistance band between $220.67 and $225.49. Only if the stock reclaims $225.49 on heavy volume can a short-term trend strengthening be initially confirmed, after which resistance at $235 and the previous high of $244.21 come into focus. A further breakout above $244.21 would suggest that the range-bound consolidation persisting for over a year may break out to the upside.
