HYPE soars 20% as Trump signals efforts to bring Hyperliquid to US market in White House meeting

Hyperliquid (HYPE) surged over 20% on Wednesday after President Donald Trump said the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is working to bring the decentralized perpetual futures platform into the US.

Trump signals regulatory path for Hyperliquid

Speaking during a White House meeting with crypto and technology executives, Trump said CFTC Chairman Michael Selig is working to establish a legal pathway for Hyperliquid to operate in the US.

“I understand that Mike [Selig] is also working to bring Hyperliquid into the United States in a fully compliant and legal fashion, working very hard on that. We would really like to see it,” said Trump.

Trump’s comments do not represent regulatory approval for the platform. It signals that the CFTC is exploring a compliant pathway that could allow Hyperliquid to serve US users.

The CFTC authorized the first perpetual futures contracts on registered US exchanges earlier this year, marking a step toward bringing the derivatives product into the US market.

Trump calls for stronger US crypto leadership

The comments came as Trump hosted a broader gathering of crypto and financial technology executives at the White House.

The meeting brought together executives from top crypto firms and the financial sector, including Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse, Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev, Kraken co-CEO Arjun Sethi and Gemini co-founders Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss. Nasdaq CEO Adena Friedman and Intercontinental Exchange CEO Jeffrey Sprecher also attended the meeting.

Representatives from Chainlink and venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) also attended, alongside Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair Paul Atkins, CFTC Chair Mike Selig and White House crypto adviser Patrick Witt.

Trump used the meeting to emphasize his administration’s goal of maintaining US leadership in digital assets and artificial intelligence (AI).

“We’re ensuring that America remains the undisputed leader not only in Bitcoin and crypto but also technologies like prediction markets, artificial intelligence and much more,” Trump said.

He also criticized policies under the previous administration, arguing that they had discouraged innovation in the digital asset sector.

Trump urges Congress to pass Clarity Act

A major focus of the meeting was the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, which seeks to establish clearer regulatory boundaries between the SEC and CFTC for digital assets. Trump urged Congress to advance the legislation, calling it “very, very powerful structured legislation” that would help the US stay ahead of China and other countries in digital asset innovation.

The bipartisan bill has stalled in the Senate over ethics provisions concerning government officials’ involvement in digital asset activities. A procedural vote is currently scheduled for September 15.

The White House meeting comes as US regulators continue developing a more defined framework for digital assets. The SEC recently proposed rules that would exempt certain token offerings from securities regulations. The proposal would also allow eligible issuers to raise capital to certain amounts without registering offerings under the Securities Act.

Meanwhile, the CFTC Innovation Advisory Committee is scheduled to meet Thursday to discuss crypto assets, artificial intelligence and related technologies.

After the meeting, HYPE jumped 22% to $71.61, just shy of its $76.87 all-time high, according to CoinGecko data.

The token has to flip the resistance between $73 and $76 to set a new all-time high before facing another potential hurdle at $94.8.

HYPE's move was partly fueled by a broader recovery in digital assets, with top cryptos including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH) and Solana (SOL) posting huge gains and sparking nearly $3 billion in liquidations in the past 24 hours.
