Banner: 3 Key Takeaways for Long-Term Investors

Source The Motley Fool

Key Points

  • Banner acquired $1.14 billion in deposits through its Pacific Financial transaction.

  • Loan originations increased 61% year over year in the third quarter.

  • Core deposits represent 90% of total deposit balances.

On its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 22, 2026, Banner (NASDAQ:BANR) reported net profit available to common shareholders of $47.7 million, or $1.36 per diluted share. The regional bank completed its acquisition of Pacific Financial during the quarter. The transaction expanded its Pacific Northwest footprint and preserved capital discipline.

Three things management said stand out for long-term investors.

1. Core Deposits Anchor Balance Sheet and Support Dividends

Low-cost funding protects bank profitability when borrowing costs fluctuate across the industry. Core deposit accounts make up 90% of total deposit balances. That stability keeps funding costs predictable and supports a $0.52 per share quarterly dividend.

To that point, our core deposits represent 90% of total deposits. Reflective of this performance, coupled with our strong regulatory capital ratios and our strong tangible common equity per share we announced a core dividend of $0.52 per share.
-- Mark J. Grescovich, President and CEO

2. Organic Loan Expansion Complements Disciplined Credit Standards

Originations increased 61% year over year as new client relationships gained momentum across commercial lending markets. Management expanded total loans by $1 billion during the quarter, and delinquent loans remained low at 0.6% of total balances.

Loan originations exceeded expectations, increasing 2% from the linked quarter in contrast to the typical seasonal slowdown and increasing 61% when compared to the third quarter of 2025. Importantly, Banner's credit metrics remain stable.
-- Jill Rice, Chief Credit Officer

3. Higher Asset Yields Fuel Expansion in Net Interest Income

Revenue grows when earning asset yields rise faster than deposit costs across the branch network. Net interest income, which represents profit from interest-earning assets minus deposit costs, rose $8.2 million from the prior quarter.

Net interest income increased $8.2 million from the prior quarter due to a combination of net interest margin expansion and growth in average earning assets, including the impact of the Pacific Financial acquisition and organic loan growth.
-- Robert G. Butterfield, Chief Financial Officer

Looking Ahead

Commercial real estate pipelines remain active heading into 2027 and provide steady deal momentum. Management relies on disciplined local underwriting and core deposit relationships to navigate shifting interest rate policies.

Commercial and commercial real estate pipelines remain healthy.
-- Jill Rice, Chief Credit Officer

Operational efficiency gains and branch integration synergies continue to improve scalable earnings capability across the footprint.

I am very excited about the how the organization is positioned and what we can do going forward and continue to improve returns.
-- Mark J. Grescovich, President and CEO

Brent's $115 front month sits $4.6 above January — the $14 spread to WTI is the supply-risk premiumDecember Brent trades at $115.29 while January is $110.71, a $4.58 backwardation. The December Brent-WTI spread is $14.2, versus a $3-5 normal. That gap, not the headline, is where the Middle East supply risk is priced. Brent slips to $111 as a two-day Hormuz plan lands — the supply-risk premium is the only thing being soldBrent fell 1.95% to $111.20 and WTI to $101.92 after Iran's foreign minister said a Qatar-brokered plan could reopen the Strait of Hormuz in two days.
