Twilio: 3 Key Takeaways for Long-Term Investors

Source The Motley Fool

Key Points

  • Twilio generated record quarterly free cash flow of $370 million.

  • Third-quarter non-GAAP operating income reached a record $326 million.

  • Management projects 2027 organic revenue growth of at least 10%.

On its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 29, 2026, Twilio (NYSE:TWLO) announced record quarterly revenue of $1.56 billion and raised its full-year organic growth target to 15%. The cloud communications provider is converting higher-margin software products into accelerating cash flows, demonstrating how platform scale compounds returns over time. Three things management said stand out.

1. Artificial Intelligence Voice Adoption Opens an Underpenetrated Market

Software add-on revenues expanded over 25% as customers added real-time transcription and identity verification tools to core channels. Voice artificial intelligence (AI) interactions currently represent under 1% of total voice minutes, providing a multiyear runway for expansion.

Voice and consumer AI have gained early traction, but penetration is still extremely low. This bodes very well for Twilio. Developers and enterprises alike choose Twilio because of our fast, trusted and reliable infrastructure that works seamlessly with their existing technology stacks.
-- Khozema Shipchandler, Chief Executive Officer

2. Operational Discipline Drives Record Operating Profit and Cash Flow

Internal cost efficiencies and higher-margin software sales pushed adjusted operating profit up 39% year over year. Structural cost reductions allowed the company to convert quarterly revenue into a record $370 million of free cash flow, which represents cash left over after operating expenses and capital investments.

Q3 non-GAAP income from operations came in ahead of expectations at $326 million, up 39% year-over-year and our fastest growth rate in over two years, driven by strong gross profit growth and continued cost leverage.
-- Aidan Viggiano, Chief Financial Officer

3. Preliminary Outlook Projects Sustained Double-Digit Growth Through 2027

Usage growth across enterprise accounts gives executives confidence to raise long-term targets. The early outlook for 2027 comfortably exceeds the annual growth target established at the company's 2025 Investor Day.

Based on the trends we see in the business, we expect full year 2027 organic revenue growth of at least 10%, well above our 2025 Investor Day framework of 7% to 8% annual organic revenue growth.
-- Aidan Viggiano, Chief Financial Officer

Looking Ahead

Enterprise communication requirements grow more complex each quarter, and developer activity feeds future sales pipelines. Neutral infrastructure, global scale, and identity verification give the business an edge as clients deploy automated agents.

We continue to see an incredibly meaningful set of problems to solve on behalf of our customers in a landscape that is moving fast. We have the financial strength, trusted infrastructure and innovation wherewithal to win through any cycle.
-- Khozema Shipchandler, Chief Executive Officer

Future performance hinges on pricing discipline and converting single-product clients into multi-channel users.

Businesses need trusted channels. They need global scale. They need context. They need higher conversion rates. And increasingly, they need secure identity, governance, and observability. They want Twilio to help them innovate at AI speed.
-- Khozema Shipchandler, Chief Executive Officer
