RTX accumulated a $340 billion backlog in the third quarter.
Raytheon booked $59 billion of defense awards in the third quarter.
Commercial aftermarket sales grew 16% organically in the third quarter.
On its third quarter of 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 20, 2026, RTX (NYSE:RTX) raised its full year adjusted sales outlook to a range of $97 billion to $97.5 billion. Surging defense orders and steady commercial aerospace demand are expanding the company's backlog. Three key takeaways from the call stand out for long-term investors.
Raytheon converted major military framework agreements into $70 billion in undefinitized contracts, which are binding agreements where final terms get settled during production, for systems like Tomahawk cruise missiles and AMRAAM air-to-air missiles. This booking expands production capacity and gives RTX multiyear revenue stability across its defense segment.
You know, that is all in about $70 billion in combined value. That provides Raytheon almost a decade of demand visibility.

Commercial aftermarket sales, which cover maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services for aircraft engines and components, grew 16% organically despite a slight dip in global flight activity. Pratt & Whitney added over 800 Geared Turbofan (GTF) engine orders and commitments year to date, expanding its commercial engine backlog to keep long-term service revenues compounding.
So far this year, we have received over 800 GTF orders and commitments and have a backlog of over eight thousand engines.

Collins Aerospace, the company's aviation systems division, delivered double-digit organic sales growth while cutting indirect labor headcount to structurally lower operating costs. Operational refinements and overhead consolidation are boosting segment margins alongside high commercial original equipment manufacturing volume.
Shifting to Collins, we are advancing structural cost actions to support further margin expansion. This includes consolidating operations, increasing manufacturing hours at best cost locations, and reducing overhead layers. Enabled by these actions, Collins has delivered double digit organic sales growth this year while reducing indirect labor headcount.

Order books are swelling across aerospace and defense channels, carrying sales momentum into next year. Deep maintenance networks, proprietary defense platforms, and long-term service agreements position RTX to capture high-margin work while management monitors supply chain bottlenecks.
As we look beyond this year, based on the fundamentals of our company, our record backlog position and operating momentum, we expect another year of top and bottom-line growth, improving operational margins, and strong free cash flow generation.
-- Neil G. Mitchill Jr., Chief Financial Officer
With production ramping across critical programs, RTX's backlog underpins long-term cash generation.
RTX is exceptionally well positioned across commercial aerospace and defense, with our leading franchises, growing installed base, and record backlog.
