A boom in cryptocurrency prices and a new analyst note were the key catalysts pushing Robinhood Markets (NASDAQ: HOOD) stock to an index-beating gain on Monday.

Investors were eager to snap up shares of the next-generation brokerage, which continues to move aggressively into cryptocurrencies and related assets. Its shares closed the trading session nearly 3% higher, well above the 1.5% increase of the bellwether S&P 500 index.

Tops in tokenization

Robinhood never seems to stop broadening its suite of offerings in the cryptocurrency sphere. This results in the company being increasingly more identified with those assets, a boon on days when digital coins and tokens are on the rise. This occurred on Monday, due in no small part to a set of impactful geopolitical and global macroeconomic developments.

Exacerbating that, Bernstein SocGen prognosticator Gautam Chhugani published something of a primer on tokenized stocks, in which he highlighted Robinhood as one of the brokerages active in this new form of trading. Buying a tokenized stock is similar to buying cryptocurrency in that a purchase is recorded on a blockchain, with the buyer holding a contractual claim to the underlying stock.

Chhugani waxed bullish about the future of tokenized stocks, not least because the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) last week essentially granted temporary permission to U.S. financial services companies to offer trading services for such assets. In his view, Robinhood and exchange operators Coinbase and Bullish could benefit in particular from this move.

Not stuck in the past

Robinhood embraced cryptocurrencies long before it was common for financial companies to do so, and it's reaping the rewards of its ever-deepening involvement. Tokenized securities are an especially promising segment, given their potential for instant, 24/7 trading in assets that have traditionally been bound by strictly defined market hours.

In my mind, Robinhood is one of the most future-forward and imaginative companies in its industry. Its shares aren't cheap, to be sure, but they deserve their premium given the company's bright future.
