XRP (CRYPTO: XRP) is up 7.2% in the last 24 hours as of 3:01 p.m. ET on Friday, Sept. 18, 2026, after the SEC provided a 5-year exception for "tokenized" stocks and oil prices retreated.

The S&P 500 dropped 0.2%, and the Nasdaq Composite was flat.

The SEC supplied a modest regulatory reset

After the Senate failed to advance the CLARITY Act earlier in the week, the SEC announced a five-year exception to trade "tokenized" U.S. stocks -- digital versions of stocks that may eventually be traded 24/7.

XRP stood to benefit from a defined ruleset that the Clarity Act would have provided. This exception doesn't really impact the token directly, but the market took it as a bullish sign that a key regulator was acting in Congress's absence -- even if the exemption is limited in scope.

Oil's retreat eased rate concerns

Brent Crude -- a benchmark for global oil prices -- nearly hit $110 earlier in the week, fueling inflation worries, and helping push U.S. Treasuries higher. When this happens, investors tend to move out of "risk-on" assets like XRP, preferring a nice, safe bond with a solid return.

But by Friday, Brent crude had fallen below $104 while long-term Treasury yields were off their recent highs.

Washington can matter for XRP

The key for investors is to watch if there are any signs of progress from Washington that would directly impact XRP, like clear legislative rules classifying digital commodities vs. securities. Still, even if that comes to pass, I have my doubts about XRP long-term.
