AMD recently raised its total addressable market target to between $2 trillion and $3 trillion -- up from $2 trillion.
AMD's business is growing rapidly and has strong opportunities in the CPU and GPU markets.
Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ: AMD) stock has seen huge gains recently. The company's share price has risen 142% across 2026's trading, and it's up more than 330% over the last five years.
AMD stock has seen strong valuation gains amid expectations that central processing units (CPUs) will play a growing role in artificial intelligence (AI) computing and that the company can gain ground in the graphics processing unit (GPU) market. With these potential catalysts in mind, recent comments from Chief Financial Officer Jean Hu point to big growth opportunities for the company.

Speaking at the Citi 2026 Global TMT Conference, Hu stated that AMD sees its total addressable market (TAM) reaching between $2 trillion and $3 trillion in 2030. Previously, she had estimated the TAM for the company's semiconductors and other products at roughly $2 trillion for 2030.
To clarify, that doesn't mean that AMD expects to record revenue on that level. The company's TAM estimate reflects the total market size its products can serve. Nevertheless, the big increase for AMD's estimated total addressable market reflects favorable trends in the artificial intelligence market and broader data center space.
An expanded total addressable market doesn't necessarily guarantee any sales or earnings wins, but it does mean greater opportunities and suggests a more favorable operating backdrop. While a large and expanding market doesn't guarantee business success, AMD's recent momentum suggests that the growing market size will benefit the company.
In the second quarter, AMD's revenue rose 50% year over year to reach $11.5 billion. The growth was primarily driven by the company's data center segment, which saw sales increase 107% year over year to $6.7 billion on strong demand for its EPYC CPUs and its Instinct GPUs. Growth for data centers is likely the main force in AMD's expanded TAM estimate, which is even more promising because the company's products for the category tend to be higher margin.
While Nvidia maintains a dominant position in the market for ultra-high-end GPUs that are the go-to choice for training today's most advanced AI models, AMD has been gaining some ground in the category. AMD has also been winning market share from Intel in the server CPU market, and it has big growth opportunities as the AI market continues to evolve.
Training of advanced artificial intelligence models will likely continue to be the domain of high-performance GPUs, but the actual running of the models can be accomplished more efficiently by CPUs in many cases. As demand for AI inference applications used to run models continues to rise, AMD is in a good position to capitalize.
