On its second-quarter 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 16, 2026, Loop (NASDAQ:LOOP) announced that it's downsizing its planned plastic recycling facility in India to lower capital requirements. The company must secure equity funding to start construction, making capital preservation and financing execution critical to its commercialization timeline. Three key takeaways from management's comments highlight the road ahead.

1. Downsizing the India Facility Cuts Capital Needs

Management reduced the planned capacity of its first manufacturing plant in India from 70,000 kilotons to 45,000 kilotons per annum. The smaller design lowers required equity contributions while preserving the site's long-term production potential through a planned second facility.

This change will significantly lower the capital cost of the facility and the resulting debt and equity financing needs.
-- Daniel Solomita, Founder and Chief Executive Officer

2. A Special Board Committee Is Evaluating Financing Options

Loop formed a special board committee in September 2026 to evaluate equity, debt, and non-dilutive capital structure alternatives. Securing its equity contribution for the joint venture (a business arrangement where two partners pool resources) remains the final gate before breaking ground.

To address our capital needs and secure funding for Loop's equity contribution to our India joint venture, our board formed a special committee in September 2026.
-- Spencer Hart, Chief Financial Officer

3. Overhead Reductions Lower Cash Burn

Targeted cuts in personnel, insurance, and director fees lowered quarterly cash operating expenses by $800,000 year over year to $1.6 million. Operating expense run rates continued to fall into the third quarter, extending the company's existing liquidity.

Our cash operating expenses for the quarter were $1.6 million, a year over year reduction of $800,000. And our run rate has continued to decline into the third quarter.
-- Spencer Hart, Chief Financial Officer

Looking Ahead

Project debt diligence is moving forward in India, and management isn't hiding its focus on capital timing. The company relies on its low-temperature technology, abundant local textile waste, and low labor costs to protect operating economics while navigating funding negotiations.

If we are successful in raising our capital, we would expect to begin construction in Q1 calendar of 2027 and complete construction by the end of 2028.
-- Daniel Solomita, Founder and Chief Executive Officer

Total planned output across two facility phases remains 170,000 tons per year, preserving the long-term expansion thesis once initial funding closes.

Our management team, board of directors, and partners continue to strongly believe in Loop's potential for significant long-term value creation based on our technology, our commercialization projects in India and Europe, and the needs of the apparel and global consumer packaging goods brands.
-- Daniel Solomita, Founder and Chief Executive Officer
