Novo Nordisk Partners With Anthropic to Accelerate Drug Discovery Using AI

TradingKey - On September 16, Novo Nordisk (NVO) announced a partnership with artificial intelligence company Anthropic to leverage Claude and related AI models to support drug R&D, and to further advance the application of artificial intelligence in scientific research and software development.

Following the announcement, its pre-market stock price rose over 1% at one point.

The focus of this collaboration is to use AI to improve drug discovery efficiency. Novo Nordisk plans to introduce Anthropic's models into part of its R&D processes, collaborating with the company's scientists and computational teams to tackle complex issues in drug discovery and develop tailored solutions for different scientific tasks. The company stated that it will prioritize testing Claude Science in select R&D workflows, focusing on scientific challenges where AI can make a significant impact.

In practical applications, Claude will assist R&D teams with tasks involving biological reasoning and drug development, thereby improving research efficiency. Novo Nordisk hopes to leverage AI to reduce the time cost of certain research tasks, accelerate the transition from basic research to drug development, and explore new scientific methodologies.

Mike Doustdar, Chief Executive Officer of Novo Nordisk, stated that the partnership with Anthropic is an important step in expanding the company's AI applications. The company hopes to enhance R&D efficiency through artificial intelligence, while using AI to help researchers analyze human biology and drug mechanisms of action, thereby supporting new drug discovery.

Beyond drug R&D, the partnership between the two parties will also extend to software development. Novo Nordisk plans to utilize Anthropic's models to enhance its internal AI software development capabilities and deploy artificial intelligence across more business functions. Meanwhile, the company will establish data governance and human oversight mechanisms to ensure that AI applications comply with its ethical and compliance requirements.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei stated that the advancement of AI promises to shorten biomedical research cycles and help researchers accelerate the discovery of drugs and therapies. The collaboration with Novo Nordisk aims to combine cutting-edge AI models with practical scientific research, driving artificial intelligence into more life science applications.
