Meta launches new Meta One subscription tier to better monetize AI

Meta rolled out Meta One on Tuesday, a new paid subscription lineup covering Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and its Meta AI assistant. The plans range from $2.99 to $499 a month, giving users access to additional features across Meta’s apps.

Meta wrote in its announcement that the core apps and Meta AI assistant will remain free and the subsciptions are purely for extra interests from the users. The company stated that the “core experience” across its apps will always remain free.

Meta’s VP of subscriptions, Helen Ma, said the company views the paid offering as a response to user demand and not an attempt to move away from its existing business model. She emphasized that Meta will continue to prioritize free, ad-supported access, with the new paid plans offering additional features without removing ads.

“We are very committed to keeping the experience for creators free,” Ma said, noting that Meta has far more employees working on its free products than on its paid offerings.

Meta One tier costs tied to AI

The Meta One subscription has multiple tiers, and the entry-level plans are linked to individual apps. WhatsApp Plus is priced at $2.99 monthly, while Facebook Plus and Instagram Plus cost $3.99 each per month. The new subscription tier also offers bundled plans based on AI, starting with Meta One Plus at $7.99 a month and Meta One Premium at $19.99.

Creators and businesses have tiers formulated with them in mind, and the plans include $14.99 for the Essential tier, $49.99 for the Advanced tier, and $149 for the Expert tier. Meta’s most expensive and power-packed Max plan costs $499 a month.

Core and Premium subscribers will also enjoy higher usage limits for all image generation and editing and video creation with Meta’s Muse models. They will also have access to in-app features such as Instagram’s Restyle.

For businesses, the higher-tier plans offer amplified access to Meta Business Agent, a product that helps in handling customer inquiries 24/7.

What $499 a month buys at the Max tier

The top-tier Max plan includes everything in the lower tiers and offers the highest level of access to Meta’s business agents. This also includes unlimited access to human support staff, including the option to schedule a call with a Meta employee, which is expected to hugely appeal to Instagram creators.

The Advanced and Expert tiers let account owners give others access to their accounts without having to share their passwords. The $49.99 Advanced Instagram plan additionally supports scheduled Stories and allows up to four clickable links a month in captions and Reels.

Meta says more than 15 million people have subscribed to or trialed its various paid offerings. However, the company has not said how many of those users are paying specifically for AI features.

Meta has hinted that it will eventually bring subscription features to its Edits video-editing app and AI-powered glasses.
