Choosing between established giants and high-growth disruptors remains a classic dilemma for investors. For those interested in exposure to the tech industry, deciding whether the steady cash generation of Adobe (NASDAQ:ADBE) or the accelerating momentum of Palantir Technologies (NASDAQ:PLTR) can be a challenge, as both have different pros and cons.

Adobe provides the software tools for digital creativity, while Palantir focuses on data integration and decision-making software. Both companies are now racing to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into their core offerings to capture a larger share of enterprise spending.

The case for Adobe

Adobe sells a comprehensive suite of digital tools through various platforms targeting different customer segments. It serves a diverse audience, including professional designers, students, and large global enterprises that rely on its proprietary formats. The company has integrated its Firefly generative artificial intelligence models directly into its software, helping users create content more efficiently.

In its 2025 fiscal year (FY), ended last Nov. 28, revenue reached $23.8 billion, representing a revenue growth of 10.5% compared to the previous year. The company reported a net income of $7.1 billion, which reflects a healthy net margin of 30%. This growth is supported by a sticky subscription model that provides predictable recurring revenue from its massive base of over one billion monthly active users.

As of its November 2025 balance sheet, Adobe maintains a stable financial position with a debt-to-equity ratio of 0.6x. This ratio compares total debt to shareholder equity to measure financial leverage. The current ratio, which measures the ability to pay short-term obligations with short-term assets, stands at 1.0x. During the same period, the company generated $9.9 billion in free cash flow, providing significant capital for reinvestment or acquisitions.

The case for Palantir Technologies

Palantir Technologies builds sophisticated software solutions, such as its artificial intelligence platform (AIP), that help organizations analyze complex data. Its strategy involves securing long-term contracts with government agencies and expanding rapidly into the commercial sector with partnerships like Amerilife and Changshin. The company positions AIP as a central operating system that allows businesses to deploy large language models (LLMs) safely and effectively.

In FY 2025, ended Dec. 31, revenue reached $4.5 billion, marking a significant revenue growth of 56.2% over the prior year. This acceleration helped the company achieve a net income of $1.6 billion, resulting in a net margin of 36.3%. The rapid expansion in the commercial segment has become a primary driver of overall growth, as more businesses seek to modernize their data operations.

As of its December 2025 balance sheet, Palantir Technologies carries a debt-to-equity ratio of zero, indicating it has very little debt relative to its equity. Its current ratio is 7.1x, which suggests a very high level of liquidity for its daily operations. The company generated $2.1 billion in free cash flow in FY 2025. Note that stock-based compensation (SBC) represented roughly 32% of operating cash flow, which inflates reported cash generation since SBC is a non-cash expense added back in the cash flow statement.

Risk profile comparison

Adobe faces significant competitive threats in markets that are evolving quickly, especially from rivals like Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) and new AI-native start-ups. Legal and regulatory hurdles regarding the use of data for training AI models could also impact its product development. Furthermore, the company recently addressed regulatory concerns by paying a $150 million settlement to the U.S. Department of Justice regarding its subscription cancellation practices.

Palantir Technologies deals with high revenue concentration among a small group of large government and commercial customers. This means the loss of a single major contract could significantly impact its financial results. The company also faces reputational risks due to the sensitive nature of its government work and political scrutiny. Additionally, many of its government contracts include termination for convenience clauses, which can make long-term revenue less predictable.

Valuation comparison

Adobe appears significantly cheaper than Palantir Technologies based on both its earnings and sales multiples, suggesting a more conservative entry point for value-conscious investors.

Valuation metrics include sourcing from Financial Modeling Prep (FMP) and may differ from other data providers.

To compare these companies, investors often look at the Forward P/E, which compares the stock price to future earnings estimates. Another useful metric is the P/S ratio, which measures the market value relative to sales over the past twelve months.

Which stock would I buy for 2027?

Adobe and Palantir are prominent players within the tech stocks landscape, and both are profoundly affected by the rise of artificial intelligence. Palantir is thriving thanks to AI. A cloud hangs over Adobe because of the tech, which threatens to displace its leadership in creative software, contributing to its lower share price valuation.

Choosing between them comes down to your individual risk tolerance. Adobe is a compelling choice for conservative investors. Its lower stock valuation offers a greater potential for upside, and it remains a dominant player in the creative software space. For instance, it achieved record revenue of $6.8 billion in its fiscal third quarter, ended Aug. 28, indicating its business remains strong despite Wall Street's concerns over AI disruption.

Personally, my pick for 2027 is Palantir. The company's sales growth is spectacular. In Q3, its U.S. commercial revenue surpassed government income for the first time, reducing its reliance on federal contracts. While its FY 2025 sales rose an outstanding 56%, 2026's Q3 year-over-year growth was a jaw-dropping 96% to $2.3 billion. This indicates the company's AIP is capturing its share of the commercial market as enterprises rush to adopt AI.
