FirstSun Capital completed its First Foundation core system conversion in September.
Commercial and industrial loan balances grew $84 million in Q3.
FirstSun Capital repurchased $50 million of common shares in Q3.
On its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 27, 2026, FirstSun Capital (NASDAQ:FSUN) announced adjusted net income of $48.2 million. For long-term investors, the bank holding company's work to lower expenses and pivot toward higher-yielding commercial loans provides a key gauge of future profitability. Three key takeaways from management's comments stand out.
FirstSun Capital completed the core system conversion, integrating the primary technology platform of acquired First Foundation. Completing this step allows the bank to capture the remaining 30% of its $68.8 million total cost savings target by early 2027.
On the integration side in late September, our team successfully completed the core system conversion of First Foundation. This was another important milestone in our integration plans and certainly resulted from a tremendous amount of hard work across the organization.
-- Neal E. Arnold, Chief Executive Officer and President
The bank is shifting its balance sheet toward variable-rate commercial and industrial (C&I) loans, which reprice quickly when interest rates change. This growth in business lending offset paydowns in fixed-rate commercial real estate and residential mortgage portfolios.
From a portfolio mix perspective, we saw encouraging growth in our C&I business, with the balances increasing approximately $84 million from the second quarter or approximately 9% annualized.
-- Robert A. Cafera Jr., Chief Financial Officer
FirstSun Capital continues to return capital to stockholders while funding organic growth. Management expects to complete its remaining $100 million share repurchase program over the next three quarters.
During the third quarter, we repurchased approximately $50 million of common shares under our previously announced $150 million share repurchase program. And we currently expect to complete the remaining $100 million over the next 3 quarters.
-- Neal E. Arnold, Chief Executive Officer and President
Commercial loan and deposit pipelines are expanding in key markets after multiyear sales investments in Texas and Southern California. FirstSun Capital is deploying this expanded commercial presence while maintaining pricing discipline and optimizing its funding mix.
I believe the strong pipelines are the result of our investment that we have made in further building our sales force over the last several years. Particularly in Texas and Southern California.
-- Neal E. Arnold, Chief Executive Officer and President
The completion of systems integration sets up additional operating leverage as cost savings materialize through early 2027. Combined with liquidity and credit risk management, the bank remains positioned to compound long-term shareholder value.
We believe our balance sheet, liquidity and net interest margin profile along with synergies on the expense side, position us well as we move into the fourth quarter and will ultimately keep us on track to drive further operating leverage and achieve our target performance for 2027.
