Equipment rental revenue increased 12% on 2% fleet growth.
Net fleet capital expenditure increased by $150 million in fourth quarter.
Specialty equipment returned to 20% of total fleet mix.
In its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 27, 2026, Herc (NYSE:HRI) raised its full-year earnings guidance. The company is pulling forward capital expenditure to supply multiyear mega projects.
Management outlined three takeaways on the strategic priorities ahead.
Management increased full-year equipment rental guidance and shifted $150 million of planned fleet spending from 2027 into the fourth quarter. The pull-forward supplies new specialty equipment directly to committed multiyear mega projects.
Because of this, we view this roughly $150 million of incremental net fleet CapEx as effectively being pulled forward from our 2027 fleet budget.
-- Mark Humphrey, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Specialty equipment returned to 20% of total fleet mix based on original equipment cost (OEC), the purchase price of equipment before depreciation. Higher dollar utilization from specialty rentals supports revenue synergies across expanded branch networks.
Returning to 20% this quickly reflects our targeted investment in specialty equipment to meet customer demand and intentional cross-selling activities to achieve our revenue synergy goals. These assets generate higher dollar utilization and higher margins.
-- Aaron Birnbaum, President
Rental revenue expanded while physical fleet expansion remained modest. Management matched equipment to active markets, lifting fleet dollar utilization, a metric tracking rental revenue earned per dollar of fleet cost.
Equipment rental revenue increased nearly 12% on an average OEC fleet growth of less than 2%. That relationship, strong revenue growth on modest fleet growth is the direct result of being good stewards of capital.
-- Lawrence Silber, Chief Executive Officer
Large-scale construction and data center demand are expanding, and management is positioning fleet assets to capture these opportunities. The company relies on scale density, network coordination, and pricing discipline to protect cash flows. Demand continues to exceed operational expectations.
Demand continues to exceed our expectations, and our team is capturing that opportunity through active asset management and targeted deployment.
-- Mark Humphrey, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Integration of previous branch acquisitions provides the infrastructure needed to handle multiyear project pipelines across major markets.
As we move through the fourth quarter, our operating agenda is straightforward: serve the expanding project pipeline, maintain efficient fleet deployment, and keep improving execution across the network.
