Freshpet reached an adjusted gross margin of 50% in Q3 2026.
The most valuable pet-parent (MVP) households spent roughly $522 annually on Freshpet.
Operational gains unlocked over $100 million of incremental manufacturing capacity.
On its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, held on Nov. 4, 2026, Freshpet (NASDAQ:FRPT) raised its full-year sales and earnings guidance, citing expanding profit margins and operational efficiency. The company is proving that its investments in proprietary manufacturing facilities and targeted marketing create real pricing power and capital efficiency as adoption of fresh pet food grows. Three key takeaways from management's comments highlight how this strategy protects long-term shareholder returns.
Improving operational performance at existing kitchens delivered the business's best adjusted gross margin in over seven years. Lower quality costs and higher plant throughput helped boost profitability before major benefits from new packaging technology arrived.
In the third quarter, we delivered an adjusted gross margin of 50%, a significant improvement from 46% in the prior year period and 47.7% in the first half of the year.
-- John O'Connor, Chief Financial Officer
Management shifted advertising spend toward its most valuable pet parents (MVPs), who spend heavily on fresh recipes. Focusing media on these core customers increases lifetime value while protecting market share against new entrants.
The MVPs in our franchise represent 72% of our sales today, and spend roughly $522 a year. Which is nearly 13x more than a non MVP.
-- William Cyr, Chief Executive Officer
Operational gains across existing factories freed up substantial product volume without building new facilities. Harvested throughput lets the company defer capital expenditures and generate higher free cash flow as revenue scales.
Our operating performance year to date has exceeded expectations and based on our ability to sustain these gains, we have unlocked over $100 million of incremental capacity from our existing manufacturing footprint.
-- John O'Connor, Chief Financial Officer
Store fridges and retail placement continue to push velocity gains ahead of newer entrants. Expanding fridge density and digital order access gives the business a durable structural advantage.
In places where we compete more head to head with some of those newer brands, we average somewhere between 6 to 8 times more the sound velocity than any of those brands are in play.
-- Nicola Baty, President and Chief Operating Officer
To offset ingredient inflation, management relies on surgical price increases and plant productivity rather than sweeping price hikes. Proprietary manufacturing scale protects long-term market leadership.
We are operating from a position of strength with a strong portfolio of products a loyal and growing consumer franchise, expanding omnichannel access and a proprietary manufacturing platform that we believe is difficult to replicate.
-- William Cyr, Chief Executive Officer
