As data analysis and security converge, investors face a choice between two high-growth leaders. Should you favor the massive scale of Palantir Technologies (NASDAQ:PLTR) or the specialized agility of SentinelOne (NYSE:S)?

Palantir offers deep data integration for government and commercial giants, while SentinelOne provides AI-driven endpoint protection through a vast partner network. Both companies are capitalizing on the massive shift toward automated intelligence, yet they operate with vastly different financial profiles. This comparison evaluates their growth, profitability, and current market valuations to help you decide which fits your portfolio.

The case for Palantir Technologies

Palantir operates as a powerhouse among tech stocks, specializing in software platforms that integrate and manage massive data sets. The company offers four primary platforms: Gotham, Foundry, Apollo, and the Artificial Intelligence Platform (AIP). Its business strategy involves deeply embedding these tools into the operations of government agencies and large commercial enterprises. Palantir maintains long-standing relationships with significant partners, including Stagwell (NASDAQ:STGW), which assists with marketing transformation, and Knox Systems. The company also leverages joint ventures with international partners such as SOMPO Holdings (OTC:NHOLF) and HD Hyundai Co. Ltd. to expand its global footprint.

In the fiscal year ended Dec. 31, 2025, revenue reached nearly $4.5 billion, representing a significant growth of roughly 56.2% year over year. This acceleration was accompanied by strong profitability, as the company reported net income of approximately $1.6 billion. The net margin reached nearly 36.3%, which is a substantial increase from the 16.1% net margin recorded in the prior fiscal year.

According to its December 2025 balance sheet, Palantir maintains a highly liquid financial position with a current ratio of roughly 7.1x. The debt-to-equity ratio is 0.0x, indicating the company has no total debt relative to its shareholder equity. Free cash flow for the fiscal year ended Dec. 31, 2025, was close to $2.1 billion, which is calculated as cash from operations minus capital expenditures. Note that stock-based compensation represented roughly 32% of operating cash flow, which inflates reported cash generation since SBC is a non-cash expense added back in the cash flow statement.

The case for SentinelOne

SentinelOne provides AI-powered cybersecurity through its Singularity Platform, which aims to detect and respond to threats across endpoints, cloud workloads, and identities. The company utilizes a channel-led sales model, relying on a vast network of managed service providers and incident response firms for distribution. Key recent partnership expansions include a collaboration with Lenovo to integrate security into their hardware portfolio and an expanded partnership with N-able (NYSE:NABL). This strategy allows the company to reach a broad global audience, including significant operations in Europe and Japan.

In the fiscal year ended Jan. 31, 2026, revenue reached approximately $1.0 billion, which was an increase of nearly 21.9% compared with the prior year. Despite this growth, the company reported a net loss of close to $450.7 million for the period. This resulted in a net margin of roughly -45%, reflecting the company's continued focus on scaling its infrastructure and market presence.

As of its January 2026 balance sheet, SentinelOne reported a current ratio of nearly 1.4x and a debt-to-equity ratio of 0.0x. Free cash flow for the fiscal year ended Jan. 31, 2026, was approximately $75.9 million. Note that stock-based compensation represented roughly 388.4% of operating cash flow, meaning reported cash generation is heavily inflated by this non-cash add-back. This high percentage suggests that the company relies heavily on equity-based incentives to preserve its cash reserves.

Risk profile comparison

Palantir Technologies faces risks including intense market competition from large enterprise software providers and defense contractors, such as Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT). The company depends heavily on government and enterprise spending cycles, which can lead to long and unpredictable sales cycles for its complex platforms. Furthermore, the voting power is concentrated among the founders, which significantly limits the influence of other shareholders. Palantir also deals with reputational scrutiny regarding its government partnerships and the geopolitical risks associated with its global operations.

SentinelOne faces significant competition in the cybersecurity market from larger, more established vendors. Key risks include the difficulty of accurately forecasting operating results due to its limited history at its current scale. The company is also vulnerable to security incidents that could damage its reputation and relies on maintaining high-quality relationships with third-party partners. Additionally, a significant portion of its personnel is based in Israel, making the company susceptible to risks from regional geopolitical conflicts.

Valuation comparison

SentinelOne has a lower P/S ratio (sales over the past twelve months), while Palantir trades at a higher Forward P/E (future earnings estimates).

Which stock would I buy in 2026?

I'd go with Palantir. Both companies are benefiting from AI-driven demand, but Palantir is winning customers at a scale and speed that puts it in a different category. The company reports Q3 results in a few days on Nov. 2, and the setup looks promising. The prior quarter showed U.S. commercial revenue more than doubling year over year, with EPS beating estimates and full-year guidance raised substantially. The company is already profitable, which makes the growth story even more extraordinary.

SentinelOne is executing well in its own right. Its AI-native security platform is winning new customers and operating leverage is improving. GAAP profitability is still ahead of it, but the trajectory is looking good.

Palantir is my pick because it's profitable, accelerating, and has built a platform that both governments and enterprises depend on in ways that are hard to replace. That kind of embedded, expanding customer base is a strong foundation for a long-term investment.
