High-growth infrastructure or steady software services? Comparing Arista Networks (NYSE:ANET) and DocuSign (NASDAQ:DOCU) reveals two distinct ways to play the ongoing digital transformation of the global economy in 2026.

Arista provides the hardware backbone for massive data centers, while DocuSign automates how businesses manage their most critical contracts. One thrives on the physical scaling of the internet; the other focuses on digitizing administrative workflows. We will examine their financials and risks to see which better serves your investment goals today.

The case for Arista Networks

In the broader landscape of tech stocks, Arista serves a global customer base across three primary categories: cloud and AI titans, specialty providers, and large enterprises. The company builds networking platforms for high-performance environments, with a focus on data-driven client-to-cloud connectivity. Arista relies on large purchases from a limited number of customers. Customer concentration like this adds a layer of risk to the business.

As of June 2026, trailing revenue reached $10.5 billion, representing a 33% year-over-year increase. This growth is driven by the rising demand for artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure among major cloud providers. Arista also reported nearly $4 billion in net income for the period, resulting in a net margin of 38%.

As of its June 2026 balance sheet, the debt-to-equity ratio was 0.0x, indicating the company had no debt relative to its shareholders' equity. The current ratio is approximately 2.9x, indicating its ability to cover short-term debts with short-term assets.

Trailing free cash flow reached nearly $5.2 billion, providing significant capital for research and development without the need for external financing.

The case for DocuSign

DocuSign provides agreement workflow software centered on Intelligent Agreement Management (IAM), eSignature, and contract lifecycle management. It maintains a diverse customer base of over 1.8 million customers globally, including Fortune 500 enterprises and government institutions. DocuSign reports that no single customer accounts for more than 10% of total revenue, which suggests a well-diversified revenue stream.

Trailing 12-month revenue reached approximately $3.4 billion, reflecting a year-over-year growth rate of 9%. While growth has moderated from pandemic-era highs, the company remains the leader in the digital signature space. DocuSign generated approximately $330 million in net income during this period, achieving a net margin of nearly 10%.

The debt-to-equity ratio is approximately 0.1x. This ratio compares total debt to shareholder equity to assess financial leverage. The current ratio is roughly 0.6x, while free cash flow reached close to $1.2 billion. Note that stock-based compensation accounted for roughly 53.4% of operating cash flow, inflating reported cash generation, since SBC is a non-cash expense added back in the cash flow statement.

Risk profile comparison

Arista Networks faces several risks, most notably its high revenue concentration among a limited number of cloud and AI titans. The company relies on limited sources for key components, particularly Broadcom merchant silicon, which leaves it vulnerable to supply chain delays. Furthermore, rapid developments in AI networking and escalating international trade restrictions, particularly those targeting China, could affect its manufacturing costs and market access.

DocuSign must navigate intense competition from rivals like Adobe and new threats from generative artificial intelligence tools that could automate agreement drafting. The company remains heavily dependent on its core eSignature product and must successfully drive adoption of its newer IAM platform to maintain growth. It also faces cybersecurity risks and must manage complex integrations with partners like Salesforce, Microsoft, and SAP.

Valuation comparison

Arista currently trades at a higher Forward P/E than DocuSign, while the P/S ratio also shows a significant premium for the networking leader. The P/S ratio measures market value against sales over the past twelve months.

Which stock would I buy in 2026?

I would buy Arista Networks. Both companies are seeing momentum, with DocuSign seeing its growth reaccelerate. But the demand for Arista is also accelerating, and the demand it is seeing could deliver even bigger gains for investors.

Purchase commitments tripled over the past three quarters, from over $3 billion to over $9 billion. Arista now expects revenue to grow 40% this year, while DocuSign is growing at a single-digit rate.

Arista is also expanding margins as it gains market share, compounding profits and fueling shareholder returns. Arista is the more expensive stock on a price-to-earnings basis, but its higher growth rate justifies the premium and should deliver further outperformance for investors.
