MSCI repurchased $627 million of shares through Oct. 19, 2026.
On its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 20, 2026, MSCI (NYSE:MSCI) announced total revenue growth of 12.4%. The financial analytics provider is expanding its reach across hedge funds and private asset managers. Three key takeaways from management highlight how the business is positioning itself for long-term compounding.
Management directs artificial intelligence efficiency savings back into new growth initiatives rather than expanding operating margins. Technology can cut unit costs in core data operations, helping a business avoid raising overall expenses to fund new products. The costs may still rise, but not as much.
So in our production environments, within our data operations, our technology organization, these are areas where AI is dramatically enhancing productivity and efficiency, and that is what's enabling us to take down the rate of growth on the run-the-business expenses.
-- Andrew Wiechmann, Chief Financial Officer
Growth in index subscriptions comes increasingly from active traders, hedge funds, and market makers rather than traditional asset managers. The company builds specialized tools for daily trading workflows, opening a new recurring revenue layer around market liquidity.
In addition to that, we have found huge white space in developing products on the trading of the assets, the trading of the assets, not just the assets, but the trading of the assets.
-- Henry Fernandez, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Artificial intelligence shortens product development cycles across financial risk and portfolio models from weeks to hours. Faster model generation lets the company deliver custom solutions to clients on demand, which strengthens client retention (the percentage of recurring subscription revenue retained from existing customers) and creates pricing power.
It used to take us several weeks to build and fully calibrate a new model, we can now do it in the space of a couple of hours. At some point, we'll be able to do it in the space of minutes.
-- Alvise Munari, Chief Product Officer and Head of Client Segments
Demand expands across non-asset manager client segments as artificial intelligence speeds product creation and deepens client relationships. High switching costs and proprietary financial models protect the core franchise, while leadership tracks client adoption of automated workflow tools and execution quality across private markets.
We have multiple dimensions of growth and a compelling opportunity to compound over the long term.
-- Henry Fernandez, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Capital allocation remains focused on repurchasing shares and acquiring complementary technology platforms. The combination of structural operating leverage and disciplined reinvestment underpins long-term shareholder value creation.
We remain intensely focused on delivering long-term compound growth and long-term value creation for our shareholders.
-- Henry Fernandez, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
