What this transaction means for investors

Director Kingsley's transaction is a pretty standard exercise-and-sell event, fairly typical among insiders, so investors shouldn't be running for the exits on this news. While the $1.2 million sale looks sizable, Kingsley still holds over $5 million in shares afterward, as well, so they still have plenty of "skin in the game" with IDXX stock.

As for IDEXX Labs' operations, the company continues to fire on all cylinders with sales and EPS growing by 10% and 18% in the last quarter. This stable, double-digit growth is nothing new for the company, which is part of what makes it one of my favorite stocks to own and a core holding for my daughter as well. Now building a suite of cancer diagnostics solutions, IDEXX remains well-positioned to continue this growth for years (if not decades) to come. With a large installed base of equipment worldwide supporting a razor-and-blade model, IDEXX Labs has a wide moat.

However, despite the company's rosy outlook, in my opinion, IDXX shares have struggled over the last few years as it couldn't live up to a perilously high valuation. Now following a 30% drop from its 52-week high, IDEXX trades at 33 times FCF -- which is its lowest mark of the last decade -- and half of its 10-year average of 66. This combination of a much more reasonable valuation and continuously steady, double-digit sales and EPS growth makes IDEXX an excellent buy at today's price, and I look forward to buying more shares for my daughter as well.
