Semiconductor assembly component company Kulicke & Soffa Industries (NASDAQ: KLIC) wasn't a bright light on the stock exchange on Tuesday. On news of a major C-Suite change, plus a degree of profit-taking, investors aggressively sold its shares, leaving them with an almost 10% loss that trading session.

New leader incoming

That morning, Kulicke & Soffa announced that Raj Talluri is to become its CEO and president. He will replace interim CEO Lester Wong in the role, with Wong concentrating on the CFO duties he held as a dual executive. That switch takes effect on Tuesday, Sept. 1.

The move to a permanent CEO has been quite some time in coming. The departure of the company's last non-interim leader, Fusen Chen, was announced toward the end of last October. At that time, Kulicke & Soffa wrote that Chen was retiring from his position for unspecified health reasons.

On his LinkedIn page, Talluri is still listed as CEO and president of next-generation battery developer Enovix. Previously, he served in high managerial roles for companies such as Micron Technology and Qualcomm.

A long stretch

I don't think the market's bearish reaction was due to the quality of Talluri's leadership, given his impressive career at several tech hardware companies.

This feels more like concern that the succession to a new permanent leader took a long while, in an industry that needs to react quickly in an always-changing environment. I also believe opportunistic investors took this as a chance to book profits after the company reported an impressive, estimates-crushing third quarter earlier this month.

I feel Kulicke & Soffa stock will rebound from this sell-off.
