First Show After $60 Billion Acquisition. SpaceX and Cursor Joint AI Model Planned for Wednesday Release, Challenging OpenAI and Anthropic

Source Tradingkey

TradingKey - According to sources from The Information, SpaceX's artificial intelligence division, SpaceXAI, and programming tool company Cursor plan to launch their first jointly developed AI model as early as this Wednesday.

This is the first major milestone following SpaceX's $60 billion all-stock acquisition of Cursor, marking an accelerated integration of Elon Musk's AI empire and posing a direct challenge to Anthropic's Opus 4.8 and OpenAI's GPT-5.5.

SpaceXAI, formerly known as xAI, boasts top-tier computing power resources including the Colossus supercomputer cluster, but has lacked distribution channels to reach developers and productization capabilities.

Meanwhile, Cursor, as one of the world's fastest-growing AI programming tools, possesses a highly loyal developer user base and a strong corporate willingness to pay, but has been limited by a lack of computing power. This partnership represents a perfect complement of resources for both parties.

Elon Musk stated that SpaceX AI will release Grok 4.5 to the public tomorrow, an Opus-class model that is faster, more token-efficient, and lower in cost.

A brand-new architecture trained from scratch

According to an internal memo, this jointly developed model is not a fine-tuned version of the existing Grok model, but a brand-new architecture trained from scratch.

The training was completed at the Colossus supercomputing cluster in Memphis, which is equipped with over 300,000 H100 GPUs and boasts a total AI computing power of 2.6 exaFLOPS, making it one of the largest AI training clusters in the world.

Elon Musk revealed last month that the model was developed based on a 1.5-trillion-parameter V9 base and supplemented with Cursor's programming data for training. Internal tests show its performance is close to or even exceeds a certain version of Claude Opus.

The core advantage of the model lies in its information processing speed, which is a common shortcoming among current leading models. Developer test feedback indicates that its code generation and reasoning speeds have improved by more than 30% compared to similar products, while performing excellently in code completion, debugging, and complex project comprehension. To ensure model efficiency, both parties postponed the release earlier this week to further optimize the model's resource utilization and response speed.

Reshaping the Competitive Landscape of Large Models

Currently, both Google and Anthropic are advancing the integration of models and development tools. SpaceXAI, by directly acquiring Cursor, has skipped the lengthy process of ecosystem building, achieving direct, end-to-end connection between model capabilities and developer tools.

In the future, the model may be presented in three forms: as a standalone API for third-party developers, integrated into the Cursor IDE as a core feature, or launched as a new version of the Grok series.

Elon Musk has high hopes for this model, having previously stated that it would achieve "Stockfish-level programming capabilities." Once its performance is verified by the market, it will break the current large model landscape dominated by OpenAI and Anthropic, providing developers with more choices.

At the same time, this will also solidify SpaceX's position in the enterprise AI market, driving its transformation from an aerospace technology company into an AI giant. Currently, SpaceX's acquisition of Cursor is expected to close in the third quarter, and the early release of this joint model demonstrates the efficient collaboration and technical prowess of both teams.

Bitcoin briefly loses 2025 gains as crypto plunges over the weekend.Bitcoin experienced a sharp decline this weekend, briefly erasing its 2025 gains and dipping below its year-opening value of $93,507. The cryptocurrency fell to a low of $93,029 on Sunday, representing a 25% drop from its all-time high in October. Although it has rebounded slightly to around $94,209, the pressures on the market remain significant. The downturn occurred despite the reopening of the U.S. government on Thursday, which many had hoped would provide essential support for crypto markets. This year initially appeared promising for cryptocurrencies, particularly after the inauguration of President Donald Trump, who has established the most pro-crypto administration thus far. However, ongoing political tensions—including Trump's tariff strategies and the recent government shutdown, lasting a historic 43 days—have contributed to several rapid price pullbacks for Bitcoin throughout the year. Market dynamics are also being influenced by Bitcoin whales—investors holding large amounts of Bitcoin—who have been offloading portions of their assets, consequently stalling price rallies even as positive regulatory developments emerge. Despite these sell-offs, analysts from Glassnode argue that this behavior aligns with typical patterns seen among long-term investors during the concluding stages of bull markets, suggesting it is not indicative of a mass exodus. Notably, Bitcoin is not alone in its struggles, as Ethereum and Solana have also recorded declines of 7.95% and 28.3%, respectively, since the start of the year, while numerous altcoins have faced even steeper losses. Looking ahead, questions linger regarding the viability of the four-year cycle thesis, particularly given the increasing institutional support and regulatory frameworks now in place in the crypto landscape. Matt Hougan, chief investment officer at Bitwise, remains optimistic, suggesting a potential Bitcoin resurgence in 2026 driven by the “debasement trade” thesis and a broader trend toward increased adoption of stablecoins, tokenization, and decentralized finance. Hougan emphasized the soundness of the underlying fundamentals, pointing to a positive outlook for the sector in the longer term.
