Old National added 26 relationship managers to expand client capacity.
Commercial and industrial loans grew 12% year over year.
The bank repurchased $100 million of common stock in the quarter.
On its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 21, 2026, Old National (NASDAQ:ONB) announced record earnings per share, or EPS, of $0.66. The regional bank is translating disciplined expense control and targeted banker hiring into sustainable market share gains. This focus enables the company to generate strong profitability without taking unnecessary balance sheet risks.
Three things management said stand out.
Old National is expanding its frontline capacity in high-growth Midwestern metro markets. Hiring experienced commercial relationship managers gives the bank a direct engine for organic commercial and industrial, or C&I, loan growth without relying on balance sheet acquisitions.
During the quarter, we added 26 relationship managers across commercial and wealth, expanding client facing capacity and supporting continued organic growth.
-- James C. Ryan, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Operational efficiency ratio, which measures operating expenses as a percentage of revenue, dropped below 45%. Management is trimming back-office costs and redirecting those savings into artificial intelligence and process automation to protect profit margins.
Operating discipline remained a clear strength. We delivered record efficiency while reducing adjusted expenses from the prior quarter even as we continued to invest in technology, AI, process improvements, and talent.
-- James C. Ryan, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Rather than taking on the integration risks and capital dilution of large bank mergers, management is prioritizing internal investments and direct capital returns. Old National repurchased $100 million of its own shares during the quarter.
There may be a time where m and a might make sense, but I do not see it in the foreseeable future here. I think it is just sticking to our knitting and doing the things we know really well.
-- James C. Ryan, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Revenue expansion is outpacing overhead growth across major Midwestern business hubs. The bank maintains structural advantages in core deposit funding, while leadership focuses on pricing discipline to safeguard net interest margin, which tracks loan yields against interest paid on deposits.
I think we are striking the right balance between investing in the future you know, which means investing in growth and also, you know, driving positive operating leverage.
-- James C. Ryan, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Disciplined risk management and organic reinvestment define the long-term compounding path.
We remain focused on the fundamentals that create durable shareholder value profitable organic growth, deeper client relationships, disciplined investment, and strong risk management.
-- James C. Ryan, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
