Investors are weighing high-margin chip powerhouses against massive hardware distributors. Choosing between Broadcom (NASDAQ:AVGO) and Dell Technologies (NYSE:DELL) requires deciding whether you value specialized semiconductor design or end-to-end infrastructure scale.

Broadcom focuses on critical networking chips and enterprise software, while Dell dominates the market for servers, storage, and personal computers. Both companies are currently riding the wave of artificial intelligence demand. This comparison looks at their business models, financial health, and risks to help you decide which fits your investment strategy.

The case for Broadcom

Broadcom provides essential semiconductors and infrastructure software for global organizations, focusing on mission-critical needs for data centers and private clouds. Its solutions power networking, wireless, and semiconductor stocks that have become central to the modern artificial intelligence infrastructure. The company maintains deep ties with major players, reportedly partnering with OpenAI on custom silicon and holding significant supply commitments with Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL).

In its latest annual report, filed for the fiscal year ended Nov. 2, 2025, revenue reached about $63.9 billion, representing growth of roughly 23.9% compared with the prior fiscal year. This impressive surge was largely driven by the high demand for AI-related networking products and the successful integration of its software acquisitions. Net income for the period was approximately $23.1 billion, reflecting a robust net margin of close to 36.2% that demonstrates high profitability.

As of its November 2025 balance sheet, the debt-to-equity ratio is roughly 0.8x, a metric that compares total debt to shareholder equity to assess financial leverage. The current ratio, which measures the ability to cover short-term debts with short-term assets, is nearly 1.7x. Free cash flow for the year reached approximately $26.9 billion, though stock-based compensation represented roughly 27.5% of operating cash flow, which inflates reported cash generation since stock-based compensation is a non-cash expense.

The case for Dell Technologies

Dell Technologies designs and sells a massive range of technology products, including AI-optimized servers, storage solutions, and personal computers. Its global reach spans over 170 countries, serving large enterprises and public institutions through both its direct sales force and a vast network of resellers. Approximately 40% of its latest revenue comes from these external sales channels, which helps the company maintain a broad market presence.

According to its latest annual report for the fiscal year ended Jan. 30, 2026, revenue reached about $113.5 billion, an increase of approximately 18.8% year over year. This growth highlights the strong market appetite for infrastructure upgrades, particularly those required for processing complex artificial intelligence workloads. Net income for the same period was about $5.9 billion, resulting in a net margin of roughly 5.2% as the company balances scale with competitive pricing.

Based on the January 2026 balance sheet, the debt-to-equity ratio is approximately negative 12.8x, which indicates that total liabilities exceed shareholder equity. The current ratio, a measure of short-term liquidity, stands at roughly 0.9x, and the company generated about $8.6 billion in free cash flow during the latest fiscal year. This cash flow reflects the amount of money left over after paying for operations and capital expenditures.

Risk profile comparison

Broadcom faces significant risks from customer concentration, as a small group of hyperscalers and distributors accounts for a large portion of its revenue. The cyclical nature of the semiconductor industry also poses a threat if current AI demand proves unsustainable. Additionally, its reliance on Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (NYSE:TSM) and ongoing legal proceedings with AT&T (NYSE:T) regarding software licensing add layers of regulatory and operational uncertainty.

Dell Technologies must navigate intense competition in the server market against rivals like Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT), which requires constant spending on research and development to maintain its position. The company also relies heavily on third-party manufacturers, making it vulnerable to supply chain delays and price volatility. Finally, a high concentration of voting power among a few large stockholders limits the influence of everyday investors on corporate governance.

Valuation comparison

Dell Technologies appears cheaper because it carries a lower Forward P/E and a lower P/S ratio based on sales over the past twelve months.

Which stock would I buy in 2026?

Broadcom is an example of a company firing on all cylinders, feeding the insatiable AI data center demand with its chips. Key drivers include continued strong growth in AI-driven revenue, more stable non-AI semiconductor revenue, and accelerating VMware bookings. Broadcom is partnering with multiple hyperscale customers to support the development and deployment of custom accelerators, called XPUs, for training and inference of frontier AI models.

Analysts see revenue jumping by an astounding 66% to $106 billion this year, with profits almost doubling to more than $44 billion. Longer-term, Broadcom's six hyperscale XPU customers are each deepening their commitment to using its advanced chips. These clients include Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG), Anthropic, OpenAI, Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META), and two undisclosed clients.

Despite its already massive size, Dell's sales are seen rising a staggering 51% to $171.3 billion in fiscal 2027, with more than $11 billion in both net income and free cash flow. While Dell still sells the laptops that originated the business, the story is all about AI. The business is selling AI-optimized servers hand over fist, with management expecting more than $60 billion in AI server sales in FY 2027, almost triple the prior year.

These are both companies riding the AI spending wave to spectacular growth. Choose the stock that is more affordable, then, under the adage of buying good stocks at good prices. With its much lower forward P/E and P/S ratios compared to Broadcom, Dell Technologies is the better buy.
