As the digital economy grows, choosing between Arista Networks (NYSE:ANET) and CrowdStrike (NASDAQ:CRWD) requires weighing hardware efficiency against software-based protection. Both companies sit at the center of critical enterprise infrastructure trends.

Arista Networks provides the physical and software backbone for massive data centers, while CrowdStrike secures those same environments against evolving cyber threats. This comparison evaluates their growth, financial health, and valuation to help you decide which stock is a better buy today.

The case for Arista Networks

Arista Networks provides high-speed networking solutions that manage data flow across massive cloud environments. Its primary customers include "cloud titans" and specialized providers building out the next-generation artificial intelligence infrastructure. The company is heavily reliant on Broadcom as its primary merchant silicon vendor for switching chips. Customer concentration like this adds a layer of risk to the business, as a few massive buyers drive the majority of its volume.

On a trailing-12-month basis (TTM) through the second quarter of 2026, Arista's revenue reached $10.5 billion. This represented a growth rate of approximately 33% year over year. Net income grew to $4 billion, which resulted in a net margin of about 38%. This figure measures how much of every dollar in sales remains as profit after all expenses, showing high efficiency in the networking hardware space.

As of its June 2026 balance sheet, the current ratio stands at approximately 3.0x. A current ratio measures a company's ability to cover its short-term debts with its short-term assets, with a value above 1.0 typically suggesting financial stability. The debt-to-equity ratio is 0.0x, indicating it carries virtually no debt relative to its shareholders' equity.

Trailing free cash flow was close to $5.1 billion. This is the cash remaining after a business pays for its operating costs and equipment investments.

The case for CrowdStrike

CrowdStrike provides the Falcon platform, which is a comprehensive suite of cloud-based cybersecurity modules for modern enterprises. These modules cover identity protection and threat intelligence, helping companies consolidate their security tools within the tech stocks landscape. The company primarily sells its services through a subscription model, providing predictable recurring revenue. It relies on third-party cloud infrastructure providers such as Amazon to host and operate its platform.

Its TTM revenue through the July 2026 fiscal quarter reached nearly $5.4 billion. This was an increase of approximately 24% year over year. Net income was roughly $38 million over the last year, resulting in a net margin of less than 1%, although it continues to generate substantial free cash flow.

As of its July 2026 balance sheet, the current ratio is approximately 1.6x. This demonstrates a solid ability to meet near-term obligations using liquid assets. CrowdStrike reported a debt-to-equity ratio of approximately 0.2x, which measures the relationship between its total debt and its shareholders' equity.

TTM free cash flow was close to $1.6 billion. Note that stock-based compensation accounted for roughly 68% of operating cash flow, inflating reported cash generation, since SBC is a non-cash expense added back in the cash flow statement.

Risk profile comparison

Arista Networks faces significant revenue concentration from a limited number of large customers, which can cause material period-to-period fluctuations. The company also relies on a sole or limited source for critical components, specifically merchant silicon, which poses supply chain risks. Increased competition and industry consolidation threaten its market share. This includes competition from larger vendors such as Hewlett Packard Enterprise and smaller, specialized players such as Extreme Networks.

CrowdStrike is currently involved in various legal proceedings and must manage potential cybersecurity incidents affecting its own systems. It must continuously innovate to address evolving security threats in a crowded market. Rivals like Microsoft also provide security solutions that compete directly for the same enterprise budgets.

Valuation comparison

Arista Networks currently trades at a lower valuation multiple than CrowdStrike, based on both earnings estimates and historical sales metrics.

MetricArista NetworksCrowdStrike
Forward P/E44.5x182.0x
P/S ratio21.9x43.3x

Valuation metrics include those sourced from Financial Modeling Prep (FMP) and may differ from those of other data providers.

The Forward P/E compares the stock price to future earnings estimates, while the P/S ratio measures the stock price relative to sales over the past twelve months. Both metrics suggest that investors are paying a significant premium for the future growth potential of these companies.

Which stock would I buy in 2026?

Arista Networks has emerged as a leading supplier of high-speed switching gear. At the same time, CrowdStrike just reported its best quarter in company history, driven by surging demand for AI security solutions. Both face competition, although CrowdStrike may be more in control of its market than Arista. This is why the cybersecurity leader trades at a higher valuation, and it's the stock I would buy now to hold for long-term growth.

CrowdStrike expects annualized revenue to nearly double to $10 billion by 2030. That could support compound annual revenue growth of close to 20%. It faces competition from Microsoft and potential threats from leading AI frontier labs, which could develop their own security solutions. However, CrowdStrike believes its data and the context built around it give it a competitive advantage that is hard to replicate.

Arista is a leader in switching, but it faces growing competition from Nvidia's networking solutions, which are scaling rapidly. Nvidia's compute and networking revenue grew 114% year over year in the fiscal second quarter, reaching $88 billion.

Both stocks trade at high price-to-earnings ratios relative to earnings growth. I see cybersecurity becoming increasingly necessary as AI advances. Investors are sensing this opportunity, with the stock soaring to new highs in 2026, but there are more gains in store for a patient investor who can hold for the next decade or so.
