Danaher: 3 Key Takeaways for Long-Term Investors

Source Motley_fool

Key Points

  • Danaher raised full-year earnings per share guidance to $8.57 to $8.62.

  • Biotechnology orders grew mid-teens during the third quarter.

  • Core revenue excluding respiratory revenue grew 5.5% in the third quarter.

On its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 21, 2026, Danaher (NYSE:DHR) raised its full-year earnings per share (EPS) guidance following higher third-quarter core revenue growth. For long-term investors, the performance signals accelerating demand across core bioprocessing and clinical diagnostic markets.

Three takeaways from management's comments stand out.

1. Management Shifts Focus From Portfolio Restructuring to Organic Growth

Danaher completed significant portfolio reshaping over recent years to build leadership positions across life sciences and diagnostics. Management's primary focus now moves to selling more effectively across operating units to gain market share.

With that portfolio transformation largely complete, our focus is shifting from reshaping the portfolio to delivering more growth from the businesses we own.
-- Julie Sawyer Montgomery, President and Chief Executive Officer

2. Bioprocessing Orders Accelerate as Biopharma Demand Recovers

Biomanufacturing customers are expanding production as new therapies advance, driving higher demand for upstream consumables and scientific reagents. That commercial momentum created mid-single-digit sales growth and double-digit order acceleration in some portions of the biotechnology segment.

Orders grew mid-teens in the quarter, with particular strength in both upstream consumables as well as reagents.
-- Matt Gugino, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

3. Capital Allocation Prioritizes Strategically Compounding Acquisitions

Management maintains mergers and acquisitions (M&A) as its primary tool to deploy capital and compound long-term returns. The company's acquiring specialized platforms like StatLab to expand pathology workflows while preserving strict investment hurdles.

We will maintain the robust investment criteria that has served us well for many decades while bringing strategic clarity and discipline to how we allocate capital and resources.
-- Julie Sawyer Montgomery, President and Chief Executive Officer

Looking Ahead

Revenue momentum continues across all three operating segments as core end markets recover. Danaher's competitive positioning relies on deep customer intimacy, broad workflow capabilities, and the Danaher Business System (DBS), its standard operating principles for continuous improvement. Executive attention remains fixed on commercial execution, bioprocessing order velocity, and the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into lab workflows.

Our third quarter came in ahead of our expectations on both the top and bottom line, with Biotechnology, Life Sciences, and Diagnostics core revenue, excluding respiratory revenue, all growing mid-single digits or better.
-- Julie Sawyer Montgomery, President and Chief Executive Officer

Management expects core revenue growth, excluding respiratory products, to land between 4% and 5% heading into 2027. Combining DBS operational discipline with higher-margin diagnostic and life science offerings keeps the business positioned for durable long-term expansion.

While realizing the full potential of these opportunities will take time, I am confident that with DBS as our foundation, we are uniquely positioned to turn those opportunities into results for our customers and the patients they serve, our associates, and our shareholders.
-- Julie Sawyer Montgomery, President and Chief Executive Officer
