A Top Silicon Valley Investor Predicts a Bitcoin Crash to $57,000 Within the Next 12 Months. Here's Why He's Wrong.

Key Points

  • Some Silicon Valley investors are now pushing a "buy AI, sell Bitcoin" investment thesis.

  • Bitcoin is highly cyclical and typically trades in four-year cycles of boom and bust.

  • If history is any guide, Bitcoin has already hit a bottom and is ready to march higher in 2027.

Several high-profile investors have already given up on Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC). Earlier this year, for example, billionaire Mark Cuban said Bitcoin had "lost the plot," announcing that he was selling nearly all his Bitcoin.

Now comes Silicon Valley investor Jason Calacanis, co-host of the All-In Podcast, who is predicting a Bitcoin crash all the way to the $57,000 price level. And he didn't stop there. He also predicted that Bitcoin would never come close to reaching its current all-time high of $126,000.

Has Bitcoin hit a bottom or not?

Yes, Bitcoin is still down 38% from its October 2025 highs, but all signs are now pointing to a bottom. This summer, Coinbase Global CEO Brian Armstrong called a Bitcoin bottom at the $60,000 price level. And many top analysts now say Bitcoin is in an accumulation phase. In other words, it's not yet a full-fledged Bitcoin bull market rally, but it's getting close.

Typical Bitcoin bear markets last around 12 months, and it has now been more than 12 months since Bitcoin last soared into nosebleed territory. Bitcoin has been through similar bear market cycles in the past, and each time, it has bounced back stronger than before. So the current price pullback, while unpleasant, is not unexpected. I'm fully expecting Bitcoin to head higher next year.

The case against Bitcoin

That said, Calacanis makes several valid points. For example, he points out that Bitcoin ETF outflows, if they persist, will make it much harder for Bitcoin to regain its former highs. At the very least, they point to weakening institutional demand for Bitcoin.

And Calacanis also suggests that new opportunities in AI (aka super intelligence) are far more attractive than those available in crypto right now. AI is growing quickly and is full of dynamism. The hottest companies are now in artificial intelligence.

By way of contrast, the Bitcoin blockchain has become a "dead network." Bitcoin has become a store of value, and nothing else, and that makes it boring for many investors.

In Bitcoin investing circles, them's fightin' words. As soon as Calacanis made the "dead network" comment, he received immediate pushback from the crypto community. Some even offered him $1 million bets based on his claim that Bitcoin would never reach another all-time high.

Bitcoin's cyclical nature

Bitcoin may no longer have as much upside potential as it once did, but it's impossible to ignore Bitcoin's impressive historical track record over the past 18 years. Bitcoin tends to move in four-year cycles of boom and bust, and each time, it has bounced back better than before.

In 2022, for example, Bitcoin collapsed in value by 64%. But it bounced back with triple-digit returns in 2023 and 2024, before hitting a new all-time high of $126,000 in 2025.

History may not repeat, but it certainly rhymes. The Bitcoin bottom is already in, and 2027 could be the year of the long-awaited Bitcoin comeback.

Micron's $4.5 billion Taiwan fab won't make a chip until 2028 — the market sold it as a 2026 problemMicron fell 17.46% to $656.39 after Bloomberg reported construction at its $4.5 billion Taoyuan Fab 11E had all but halted over a labor dispute. The plant was not due online until 2028, so no 2026 output is lost. With FY27 EPS consensus near $160 and 2027 HBM sold out, the selloff is a peak-cycle multiple reset, not a demand collapse — and $650 is the line that separates the two.
