On its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, held on Nov. 4, 2026, Jackson Financial (NYSE:JXN) announced retail annuity sales of more than $6.5 billion. The insurer is expanding into spread-based products, which earn income on interest rate spreads, to build a predictable earnings stream.

Management offers three key insights into how the company is driving this transition.

1. Spread-Based Products Drive Sales Momentum and Earnings Stability

Jackson Financial is shifting its sales mix away from traditional variable annuities, contracts whose payouts fluctuate with market funds. It is expanding spread-based offerings like registered index-linked annuities (RILA), which shield retirement savings with capped downside protection, to lower reliance on equity market fees.

Our diversification efforts are gaining momentum, with nearly 60% of retail annuity sales coming from spread-based products. We remain an industry leader in the RILA market with nearly $29 billion in RILA assets and record third-quarter RILA sales of $3 billion.
-- Don Cummings, Chief Executive Officer

2. An Exclusive AARP Partnership Unlocks Direct Consumer Distribution

Jackson Financial secured an exclusive partnership with AARP to offer digital annuities directly to members starting in late 2026. This direct-to-consumer model gives the insurer access to self-directed investors without relying on traditional advisor networks.

The AARP program is an exclusive program offered from Jackson. We will start in mid-November offering it through 10 states, and then we will expand to a national launch in the first half of 2027.
-- Alison Reed, Head of Distribution of Jackson National Life Distributors

3. The Brooke Re Reinsurance Structure Stabilizes Economic Risk Management

Jackson Financial manages market volatility through Brooke Re, a Michigan-based captive reinsurer created to isolate variable annuity risk. The structure aligns accounting reserves with market economics, preventing costly non-economic hedging during rising interest rate cycles.

Brooke Re allows us to prudently manage the long-term economic risks of our variable annuity guarantees, protect policyholders over the long term, and support more consistent hedging outcomes and predictable capital generation.
-- Brian Walta, Chief Financial Officer

Looking Ahead

Sales momentum is building across spread-based retirement products, and free cash generation continues to cover capital return targets. Jackson Financial leverages strong distribution relationships, broad product choices, and internal investment capabilities to generate steady operating returns while watching policyholder lapse trends.

Based on our performance through September, we remain confident in achieving at least $1.2 billion of free capital generation for the full year.
-- Brian Walta, Chief Financial Officer

A disciplined hedging program and expanding direct sales channels provide a foundation for long-term growth across changing market environments.

Importantly, we believe Jackson's market presence, operating strength, and capital position provide the foundation for long-term value creation.
-- Don Cummings, Chief Executive Officer
