Hyperscaler customer revenue grew over 200% year over year.
European equipment replacement represents a $10 billion market opportunity.
Component shortages reduced potential third quarter shipments by tens of millions.
On its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, held on Nov. 3, 2026, Adtran (NASDAQ:ADTN) reported revenue of $281.2 million. Component shortages limited product shipments and raised input costs during the period. Long-term shareholders need to know whether temporary supply chain bottlenecks will overshadow structural demand across cloud and telecom networks.
Three key takeaways stand out from management's comments.
Hyperscalers, or large-scale cloud providers operating massive data centers, are expanding network capacity to support artificial intelligence workloads. Adtran experienced rapid sales growth in this segment as cloud operators upgraded data center interconnect systems.
Revenue from hyperscaler customers grew more than 200% year-over-year.

European telecommunication operators are transitioning away from high-risk equipment vendors to meet security standards. Proposed legislation in Europe could mandate removal of high-risk vendor equipment, unlocking substantial multiyear order opportunities for compliant suppliers. The $10 billion Stanton cites is the total replacement pool, while the company's commissioned study put the directly comparable annual market in the mid-$800 million range.
The bigger piece, of course, is if they do get this legislation or when they do get this legislation approved, there's a solid $10 billion worth of equipment that's got to be replaced.

Supply chain bottlenecks across optical components, lasers, and printed circuit boards delayed product delivery to customers. Management estimated that component shortages prevented the company from realizing significant additional revenue during the third quarter. Supply costs account for 80% to 90% of the margin pressure, and Stanton sees it as the biggest headwind heading into next year.
I would say there was tens of millions of dollars we could have shipped if we had more supply.
-- Tom Stanton, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Optical network upgrades and cloud infrastructure demand remain steady, but component availability dictates shipment execution. Adtran's management expects deep carrier relationships and optical technology to give the business a head start as competitors pivot. Meanwhile, leadership monitors supply-chain inflation and maintains pricing discipline.
We continue to take proactive measures to maintain cost discipline and offset inflationary pressures.
-- Tim Santo, Chief Financial Officer
Future growth hinges on expanding cloud architecture deployments and executing product redesigns. Management aims to improve the non-GAAP operating margin, an adjusted profit metric that excludes one-time items, while navigating component shortages.
We remain focused on addressing gross margin pressures, maintaining disciplined expense management, and achieving our long-term target of 10% non-GAAP operating margin.
