Stock Market Today, Oct. 28: Oracle Surges on Fiscal 2030 Revenue Guidance of $225 Billion

Source The Motley Fool

Oracle (NYSE:ORCL), an enterprise software, cloud applications, and AI infrastructure provider, closed at $144.54, up 10.73%. Oracle jumped after its Investor Day guidance pointed to at least $225 billion in fiscal 2030 revenue. Investors are watching next for free cash flow progress and AI capex discipline.

Trading volume reached 79.1 million shares, coming in about 161% above its three-month average of 30.4 million shares.

How the markets moved today

The S&P 500 (SNPINDEX:^GSPC) closed at 7,744, up 0.28%, while the Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX:^IXIC) finished at 26,550, up 0.27%. In enterprise software and cloud infrastructure, SAP (NYSE:SAP) closed at $236.93, up 0.48%, and International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) closed at $253.22, up 1.19%, offering a steadier peer backdrop for Oracle's bigger move.

What this means for investors

Tech veteran Oracle held its Investor Day on Oct. 28, where it said fiscal 2027 sales should reach at least $90 billion, up from the prior year's record revenue of $67.4 billion. It also projected free cash flow would turn positive in the second half of fiscal 2028 and reach at least $30 billion in fiscal 2029, which is easing AI spending concerns among investors. This forecast contributed to its strong share price performance on Wednesday.

Adding to the easing of worries over Oracle's capital spending, the company stated, "Vendor financing, customer-provided hardware and customer prepayments are expected to reduce upfront cash requirements through the transition to positive free cash flow."

The good news comes as Oracle's stock has fallen about 50% over the past 12 months. The company was spending so much to expand its computing infrastructure to capitalize on the artificial intelligence boom, and issuing debt to cover the cost, that its credit rating was downgraded to BBB-, one notch above speculative grade, in 2026.

Earlier this year, Oracle's September quarter beat and backlog strength helped revive confidence in cloud growth and debt management as the company posted record revenue of $19.3 billion, which represents an outstanding 30% year-over-year increase.

Brent's $115 front month sits $4.6 above January — the $14 spread to WTI is the supply-risk premiumDecember Brent trades at $115.29 while January is $110.71, a $4.58 backwardation. The December Brent-WTI spread is $14.2, versus a $3-5 normal. That gap, not the headline, is where the Middle East supply risk is priced. Here is what the curve says, why the December contract's expiry on October 30 will mechanically cut the headline by $4.6, and the 108.81 neckline that decides the next move.
