On its third quarter of 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 27, 2026, Ecolab (NYSE:ECL) announced 7% organic sales growth and an 11% increase in organic operating income, which measures operating profit from core business operations. The company is successfully shifting its sales mix toward high-margin growth drivers such as artificial intelligence, data center cooling, and bioprocessing solutions. Three key takeaways from management explain how this strategic shift supports long-term value creation.
Ecolab expanded its technology division by acquiring liquid-cooling and ultrapure-water providers to serve data centers and semiconductor plants. Rapid expansion in computing infrastructure drove high demand for direct-to-chip cooling and circular water recycling systems.
Global High-Tech, now Ecolab's largest growth engine, continues to accelerate, growing organic sales by 63%.
-- Christophe Beck, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
The pharmaceutical and biotechnology division expanded capacity with a new plant in China to support bioprocessing customer demand. Management expects rising sales volume in drug manufacturing to drive operating income margin, or operating profit percentage, toward 30%.
With this critical investment, our Life Sciences businesses is soon approaching $1 billion in sales and delivering the performance we committed to you: double-digit sales growth and OI margins that are on a trajectory to expand to 30% over the next few years.
-- Christophe Beck, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
North American restaurant foot traffic dropped mid-single digits, creating headwinds for the institutional cleaning business. To gain market share, Ecolab is restructuring its field workforce to consolidate hygiene, water, and pest-monitoring services into unified customer accounts.
The first one is, we will rebalance sales and service in our team. On one hand, we will double our sales firepower in North America.
-- Christophe Beck, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Organic revenue growth is accelerating across core units as technology integration improves pricing power and operational efficiency. Management expects these structural advantages to sustain profitability target commitments.
We expect organic sales growth to grow at the upper end of our 5% to 7% target, and Ecolab's adjusted operating income margin to reach the 20% that we promised.
-- Christophe Beck, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Long-term value creation hinges on executing cross-selling initiatives and maintaining momentum across key industrial end markets.
We have a strong foundation, increasing momentum and a tremendous opportunity ahead.
