Adjusted earnings per share reached $1.04 for the third quarter.
Peoples Bancorp sold $59 million in securities to remain under $10 billion.
Commercial loan payoffs reached $460 million through three quarters of 2026.
On its third quarter of 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 20, 2026, Peoples Bancorp (NASDAQ:PEBO) reported adjusted diluted earnings per share, or profit per share excluding one-time items, of $1.04. The bank's active acquisition strategy and balance-sheet restructuring position it to cross the $10 billion asset threshold with enhanced operating efficiency.
Three key takeaways from management explain what comes next.
Management actively pruned its investment portfolio, selling $59 million in securities at a $4.5 million loss to stay under $10 billion in assets ahead of closing its Citizens merger. The move gives the bank capacity to onboard $350 million in loans and $550 million in deposits while preparing for another pending merger with Capital Bancorp in 2027.
Laying out a path beyond the $10 billion threshold is the culmination of years of strategic planning and patience.
-- Tyler J. Wilcox, President and Chief Executive Officer
Net interest margin, the gap between interest earned on assets and interest paid on deposits, expanded as higher earning loan yields boosted interest revenue. Lower deposit costs further supported revenue growth across the first nine months of the year.
Increased investment in loan yields contributed to the higher margin while net interest income benefited from higher loan income.
-- Katie Bailey, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer
Commercial lending activity remained energetic, marking the bank's third-highest quarter ever for commercial loan originations. Commercial and industrial loans, which fund business operations rather than real estate, saw higher adoption while real estate payoffs created minor overall growth headwinds.
This was actually our third highest quarter ever of commercial production, and I really like the mix shift into C&I that we have seen throughout the year.
-- Tyler J. Wilcox, President and Chief Executive Officer
Acquisitions and loan expansion continue to drive operational momentum as the bank integrates regional branches. Management expects positive operating leverage and disciplined loan growth through the coming year while maintaining credit standards.
We look to have a strong close to our 2026 performance and continue to be optimistic about our strategic plans and ability to execute on the pending mergers and future growth.
-- Tyler J. Wilcox, President and Chief Executive Officer
With net interest margin projected to widen in 2027, leadership anticipates higher core returns across its expanding branch network.
For the full year of 2027, we anticipate our net interest margin will be between 4.3-4.5%.
