Amid Gaza Ruins, One Trader Keeps His Crypto Screens Running

A makeshift Gaza trading tent has stunned the crypto community. The video shows a full desk of screens and price charts, set up in the rubble of war.

Traders shared it fast as a lesson in grit, telling followers to stop complaining about the price of Bitcoin (BTC). BeInCrypto could not verify the clip.

Inside the Gaza trading tent

The clip moves slowly across the tent. Screens and a laptop show live price charts. Printed charts and notes cover the walls.

A Palestinian flag hangs over the desk. Just outside, the camera catches broken concrete and flattened buildings.

For many traders, the point was obvious. If someone can trade from a tent in a war zone, a bad market day is no excuse.

The scene is not new. Gazans were trading crypto for money long before the war. Sky-high youth unemployment pushed many online to try.

“Many graduates apply for any available job because circumstances push them to seek income rather than wait for a job related to their specialization,” one local told Al Jazeera.

Why Crypto Matters in Gaza

The war wrecked Gaza’s banks. By early 2025, only two of Gaza’s 94 ATMs still worked, the World Bank said. Most banks were damaged or destroyed.

So people turned to crypto. Many use Tether (USDT), a digital coin built to stay worth one dollar.

About half of Gaza’s exchange shops handle it, Middle East Eye reported. Money from home can arrive in minutes. That is part of a wider rise in everyday USDT payments.

“It doesn’t require many details, and once the transfer arrives, it can be withdrawn immediately,” said Wajeeh Ajour, a money transfer worker in Gaza.

But it is far from easy. Brokers can take 30 to 40 percent to turn crypto into cash. Before the war, the fee was near 1%.

The risks are real too. After PayPal and Western Union pulled back, many switched to Bitcoin as an alternative.

Binance has also frozen Gaza accounts, once locking away $100,000. Users say Israel flags them as terror risks.

A Hard Life Behind the Hype

While the setup looks slick, the truth around it is grim. The UN body UNCTAD calls Gaza’s crash the worst on record.

The economy now runs at about $161 a year per person. That is under 50 cents a day. Roughly nine in ten people are displaced, many living in tents.

Trading there is hard, too. The power cuts out. The internet drops mid-trade. Steady profits are rare.

A shaky ceasefire has held since October 2025, but the cash crisis has not eased. Some officials even want a stablecoin plan for Gaza.

Whatever the video really shows, it points to something true. In Gaza, crypto keeps families afloat while the banks stay shut.
