On its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 28, 2026, Oatly (NASDAQ:OTLY) lowered its full-year adjusted EBITDA, a metric tracking core operational profitability, to a range of 16 million euros to 20 million euros because of rising North American fuel and freight costs. Investors must weigh near-term logistics margin squeezes against steady volume growth across international retail channels.

Three key takeaways from management's call explain how the company plans to navigate these cost pressures while expanding its market footprint.

1. Surging Freight Costs Forced an Earnings Cut and a Planned Price Hike

Soaring fuel prices in North America outstripped internal cost offsets during the quarter, squeezing profit margins. Management plans to roll out selective price increases and smaller product sizes starting in the first quarter of 2027 to protect profitability.

For perspective, in the U.S., diesel prices have increased approximately 70% since the beginning of the conflict in the Middle East in February, and approximately 40% since early July. This unexpected and sharp acceleration during Q3 combined with broader logistics pressure, drives the downward revision to our full year adjusted EBITDA outlook.

2. Oatly Is Expanding Into Wellness Beverages With a New Fiber Platform

To capture higher-margin consumption occasions beyond traditional coffee, the business is launching a line of functional fiber drinks. This platform aims to tap into growing consumer interest in nutrition and dietary health across Europe and North America.

An approximate 250-ml serving, roughly equivalent to one oat latte, provides 5 to 6 grams of fiber. So we expect that platform to accelerate Oatly's penetration in new consumer occasions.
-- Daniel Ordonez, Global President and Chief Operating Officer

3. Retail Distribution Growth Is Closing the North American Market Share Gap

Expanded shelf placement at major retailers has helped narrow the market share distance to the leading brand. Transitioning products from 64-ounce to 48-ounce containers provides shelf space efficiency while supporting higher price points per ounce.

We again outperformed with volume-driven growth of 8%. This sustained momentum means we are quickly closing the market share gap, nearing just 2 percentage points to take market leadership, following a gap of nearly 8 percentage points in the summer of 2025.
-- Daniel Ordonez, Global President and Chief Operating Officer

Looking Ahead

Constant currency revenue expansion remains on track across European and international markets, giving leadership room to defend profitability without sacrificing customer traction. The business relies on its proprietary oat processing expertise, expanding out-of-home distribution channels, and retail shelf gains to build brand equity.

Our reiteration of 2026 constant currency revenue, despite more difficult year on year comparisons and macro consumer pressure, reinforces our confidence and visibility into our demand generating growth strategy.
-- Jean-Christophe Flatin, Chief Executive Officer

Management is keeping a close watch on transportation inflation and pricing discipline across all key regions. To counter ongoing shipping expense volatility, executive leadership is prioritizing structural overhead reductions while maintaining core marketing investments. The organizational focus remains squarely on operational efficiency and cash flow generation.

We are at the moment in our company history where we are creating growth momentum, and we are delivering now structurally profitable growth. And therefore, we view our job as accelerating this value creation despite the external challenging environment.
-- Jean-Christophe Flatin, Chief Executive Officer
