On its third quarter of 2026 earnings call, held on Nov. 5, 2026, Century Aluminum (NASDAQ:CENX) announced net sales of nearly $1 billion following a return to full capacity across its primary smelters. The completion of major restart projects marks a pivot from heavy reinvestment to strong cash conversion. For long-term investors, reduced capital spending clears the runway for balance sheet strengthening and new domestic growth projects. Three things management said stand out.

1. Major Restart CapEx Programs Are Now Complete

Century Aluminum completed its major plant restarts and power equipment installations, lifting total shipments by 33% sequentially. With capital expenditures (CapEx, or money spent on physical assets) returning to lower baseline levels, cash conversion is set to increase.

Our major investment CapEx programs to restore production at Mount Holly and Grundartangi and install TG4 at Jamalco are now complete.
-- Jesse E. Gary, President and Chief Executive Officer

2. Oklahoma Smelter Project Advances Toward Final Investment Decision

The proposed Oklahoma plant would double total U.S. primary aluminum production and create 1,000 permanent jobs. Key hurdles are clearing quickly as management secures commercial energy contracts and aligns structured project financing prior to a final investment decision (FID, the binding commitment to fund construction).

Financing discussions have advanced with material terms largely agreed and on track to be ready for FID.
-- Jesse E. Gary, President and Chief Executive Officer

3. Operational Cash Conversion Reaches Exceptional Levels

Operational execution boosted cash balances to $755 million, surpassing total debt of $486 million. Efficient smelter operations and baseline capital spending are driving sustained cash generation across the portfolio.

Century is converting its earnings into cash at a very high rate right now, and we see that continuing.
-- Jesse E. Gary, President and Chief Executive Officer

Looking Ahead

Data center construction, power grid expansion, and automotive manufacturing are pulling heavy metal volumes through domestic supply channels.

Demand in our US and European markets remain strong, driven by data center and power system build out, and good automotive demand.
-- Jesse E. Gary, President and Chief Executive Officer

Near-term management focus remains on disciplined cost absorption, power contract execution, and finalizing environmental permits in Oklahoma. The company's net cash position and federal manufacturing tax credits provide structural support for its expansion.

No company is investing more to restore American primary aluminum production than Century.
-- Jesse E. Gary, President and Chief Executive Officer

Micron's $4.5 billion Taiwan fab won't make a chip until 2028 — the market sold it as a 2026 problemMicron fell 17.46% to $656.39 after Bloomberg reported construction at its $4.5 billion Taoyuan Fab 11E had all but halted over a labor dispute. The plant was not due online until 2028, so no 2026 output is lost. With FY27 EPS consensus near $160 and 2027 HBM sold out, the selloff is a peak-cycle multiple reset, not a demand collapse — and $650 is the line that separates the two.
